Using Stock Springs in 60 - 66

I'm wondering with newer axles swapped in what differences with day to day use would a person notice?

I'm curious to get input from people using stock springs for day to day use vs. updating to newer springs & hangers from a 73 & up.

Re: Using Stock Springs in 60 - 66

The only difference that a "later model" spring would make is that later model trucks use longer leaf springs. The difference in leaf lengths changes the handling characteristics.

Now if you just mean a "new" leaf, as in a replacement, then new leaves can be purchased with different spring rates, and other features, for a given length. If replacing old, worn out springs then it should certainly be an improvement.

I don't think the axles will affect the ride much, other than a change in unsprung weight when going from 1/2 ton axles to 1 ton axles.

How do you intend to use your truck? You really have to decide on what your truck will be used for before you can make a decision on things like suspension setup. My dad has a similar pickup and drives it around town daily. It works just fine for him.

Re: Using Stock Springs in 60 - 66

I'm more of less going to build the truck for pleasure / light work. The 4wd I picked up looks like it has decent springs / hangers on it.

I am not going to run the older axles, so at this point it looks like I will update the drive train & leave the springs. The blocks don't bother me.

Appreciate the reply.
