Re: My 87 Shorty Project

I am thinking about a drop kit. I am going to do drop spindles, It has a old school carb 350 in it. I am going to do a little cam work and gear to gear timing. Nothing to much just want a good sound. The flat black is my choice but my wife wants a shine. I really don't think I am going to win! LOL, The rims are red now with the chrome rings and center caps. Past that I will just play it by ear. I hope to get some ideas from this site!

Re: My 87 Shorty Project

It is fairly straight, new fenders, cab corners, rockers, bed sides, the back of the bed floor has been cut and replaced and it has a 1978 tailgate with roll pan. My wife bought the truck about 1992, looked new then but the Indiana winters took it's tole on her. Then the 4.3 took a dump and that's how she got a old school 350 in her. A lot of work to do but way better then when it started. Thanks for the compliments!

Re: My 87 Shorty Project

Nice, your getting right on it, nice square body style, lots of potential. So have you thought more on the drop, just wondering how much, sure does make a big difference.

Re: My 87 Shorty Project

I am looking at a 3" drop in the front. Going to buy from Summit Racing unless someone has a better deal out there. I really don't know yet how much in the rear. I know I will have to drop more but don't know how far. Anyone know what it will take to make it even?

Re: My 87 Shorty Project

I think it seems to be common a 3" front drop and a 4" rear drop seem to match well.

Re: My 87 Shorty Project

I was thinking the same but was looking at a 5" drop on ebay. The guy had pictures of a 3" in front and 5" in the back. The gizmo he had was a bracket looking piece that let you move the rear end to the top of your springs. Looked easy and was not bad on price. I think it was around 40 bucks. Being a welder by trade I think I can make it myself now that I know. LOL, I just need spring to come to Indiana so I can get this going! I have built a garage but no door yet, kinda hard to heat right now! LOL
