Help with cheepest way to fit fat tire on 84.

I been looking and everything is over 1500 bucks to get a fatter tire on my 84. I do not want to cut the rear end down or move the frame rails. I would like to move the leaf springs and that would give me a lot more room! Would moving the leafs to inside the frame rails work? Other options?

Yes if you swap the hangers & shackle mounts side to side, mounting the brackets to the inside of the opposing frame rail. You'll either have to trim the inside of the rail down or space the hangers out so the leaf springs won't hit the frame. Then you can run a 15x12 with 7.5" backspacing with a 29x15.59 tire. You'll need to roll the fender lips. But even then you're still looking at about a grand in tires & wheels, not counting if you're paying for someone to do the work. You'll be close to $1500 if you're buying everything new.

What size do you have on the back now?

Re: Help with cheepest way to fit fat tire on 84.

How big do you want to go?
15x12 with 7.5 bs with 3" mini tubs and 315/60 drag radials will fit though very tight.

15x10 with 5.5bs with no mods and 295/65 dr's

all with a very low stance

Either way measure your truck as some trucks are offset to one side more than the other.

As you can see with a 8'' wheel with 295/50's are sticking out to far to tuck now but I do have plenty of room to the inside and even more if I move the tubes in! The truck just sets way to high for me and I want to flip the axle and tuck a wider tire.

Re: Help with cheepest way to fit fat tire on 84.

You can flip the axle and do springs and spindles to go 4/6. when i lowered mine 15 years ago belltech offered a 3" spindle and 1" spring. now i think its 2.5 and 1.5 which should work better to raise your lower a arm height. 12s look killer with mini tubs and the handling doesn't suffer.

If you want to hook then get some steelies and m/t drag radials. Change them when you race or whatever

I run 30x12's on my 15x10 rallys and they dont stick out or rub anywhere. I believe they are 4.5" backspace...

Re: Help with cheepest way to fit fat tire on 84.

I thinking of painting the entire truck silver, then all chrome is going to be flat black. I want to drop the front another 1'' or so and rear needs at least 5''. I think i wanna run a 15x10 front and 15x12 rear! The wheels will be black as well! The truck now has 2'' drop spindles and 2'' drop shackles i think!

You shouldnt have any problem flipping the back with the 15x8's now and you could very well possible get away with a 15x10 in the rear with out having to. 12's when your going to have to start cutting away the fender lips and then tub the bed about 3 inches. Correct me if Im wrong someone but when you lower the truck the wheel and tire slightly change inwards toward the truck.

Yeah im going to move the tubs in as far as the frame rails to just have the room. Also will trim the fender lips!

Re: Help with cheepest way to fit fat tire on 84.

Ugh......... Will a 325/50/15 tuck on a 10'' wheel with 3''3/4'' back spacing?

I really really want to run these wheels!! Think I might run a 15x5 front and 15x10 rear! Cheap wheels but i freakin love the looks!

3 1/2" backspace on a 10" wheel won't. I think it'll take at least 5".

Re: Help with cheepest way to fit fat tire on 84.

You need 5" backspacing to tuck on a 10" wheel. I have 295/50/15's on a 10" wheel with 5" backspacing and 7" of rear drop. I have 1/4" clearance to the fender lip and about 1" clearance to the inside wheel tub.
