Re: Gas gauge stuck

I have the same problem but mine moves around. It will go way up past full and get stuck for a while then come down to just above full and sometimes it will actually tell me how much fuel I have.

Loose tank ground will do what you describe. That doesn't help the OP though.

Stuck gauge will need a little troubleshooting.

Bad power or Bad ground to the instrument cluster would make the gauge stay in one place. There are two splices in the harness behind the instrument cluster. One splices several grounds to one wire and the other is a similar power wire splice. Check those first.

Re: Gas gauge stuck

Stuck float is also a possibility.

Re: Gas gauge stuck

Reach the back of the instrument panel and make sure the harness plug is firmly planted in place. That fixed mine. Now if that doesn't work, then I'm afraid you will need to do some diagnostics. There is a good flow chart around here somewhere...

Re: Gas gauge stuck

my 78 bounced when driving when i bought it
read it was a tank/sender issue
when i switched from idots to Tach/gauges in the 78
had to repin the cluster and added a seperate ground to that joint
and one to just the gauge pin
since going to the small gauge I no longer bounce
i put a new spectra tank and sender in my 79 no bounce, gauges with big F gauge
cluster splices/joins are about a foot from the plug
i went throught the whole cluster and cleaned the paths, be sure to
check the paths on the board, to the plug are straight too
crazy glue worked for that
