options for front sway bar?

Hi all,
I am normally on the 47-59 boards and thought I would come on over here to ask a question. BTW, I love what you guys did with this side of the garage, it looks great.
ok here it goes:
I have a 58 Fleetside pickup that has a 71 C10 front grafted clip for suspension. I have it air-bagged and pulled the stock sway bar out due to it going to rub the bags.
My question is whether there are other options out there for a replacement.
Do you have some links? pics? or ?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Re: options for front sway bar?

73 -87 chevy truck sway bar. Most people look for the one ton or 3/4 ton as they have the larger ones some up to 11/8. Go to the home page of this site and then go to the upper left hand corner and look into the tech tips section go to the 67-72 section and scroll down until you find the post that says sway bar. It talks about the bars and the part numbers for the rubber bushings the replacements and the brackets as well. You can get brackets for lowered trucks but most with that condition bolt the bar to the holes in the frame without a bushing bracket. Also one more thing I've read where people with low low trucks or trucks with bags, are trimming the ends of the bars off to allow more room for the movement of the airbag and not to have any scuffing. I hope you find this helpful. Jim

Re: options for front sway bar?

Your truck sounds like it's pretty cool. I'll have to wander over to the 47-59 section and check it out. I'm assuming that you do all of this work yourself. WTG.

A racing sway bar with links is probably your best option. Summit has some stuff, but there are shops in the LA area that sell stock car products where you might find a better deal. Another option that you have is find a stabilizer bar from another type vehicle that you can mount to the lower control arms at a different location allowing more clearance for the bags. The stock mounts at the chassis aren't in the best location for a lowered vehicle either. I have my sway bar brackets bolted directly to the frame on mine.
Give the guy's at Speedway Engineering a call, and explain to them what you're trying to do. They been very helpful to me in the past.

Re: options for front sway bar?

u might want to take a cheap piece of rod say 1/8 or 3/8 diameter and bend it up to were it will fit without clearance problems and take it with you to a junlyard and use as a template for what u need
