68 Chev with GMC front clip

I'm doing completely doing a 68 chev for a friend and it has a GMC front clip, he wants it to be back to an original 68 Chev, what do I need to change as far as sheet metal? The hood and fenders on it now are real nice. He already bought a rad support and grille and chrome .

That's it. Hood and fenders interchange in 68 with Chevy and gmc

So that means they are the same? Only if they are 68 GMC ? I guess I might need to figure out what year they are from?

Re: 68 Chev with GMC front clip

68-72 gmc fenders are the same as 68 Chevy fenders. 69-72 Chevy fenders only work with 69-72 chevies.
67 Chevy and gmc fenders are the same. Lack of marker light holes is the only difference between these and 68 Chevy and 68-72 gmc

67 and 68 Chevy and gmc hoods all the same.
69-72 Chevy and gmc hoods all the same.

Minor differences in all for hood letters/Bowie holes and fender emblems.

Re: 68 Chev with GMC front clip

I need to jump in on this. I have a 71 gmc and I thought I wanted a 71-72 Chevy fromt end. But from what I've read ....including this thread. ..its easier to throw in a 67-68 chevy grill since fenders and hood is the same right? At least that's my take on it.

a 71 gmc will still need a 67-68 hood

So what is the diff. Between 67-68 and 69-72 hoods. Is it something noticeable.

Re: 68 Chev with GMC front clip

Extremely noticable. 67-68 slopes at the front, 69-72 goes straight up.
67-68 hood is longer too.

Is the 67-68 hood also not as tall? When I look at pictures it seems lower in the front

Re: 68 Chev with GMC front clip

Right, the 67/68 hood has a gradual slope at the front, the 69-72 is pretty much a flat drop off at the front.

You don't have to change rad support. Just knock off headlight ext and mount 67/68 headlight buckets.

Re: 68 Chev with GMC front clip

Yea it's pretty noticable 69-72 on the left, 67-68 on the right.

The difference in length is made up with the grill cap on the top of the later grills, '67 grill in front, '70 grill behind.

The tiny little grill cap on the '67 hood goes under the hood, the big chunk of crown moulding on the '70 hood goes in front of the hood.

Chevy just cut down the fenders to match the shorter hood.
