Any Roku users out there?

Getting fed up with the cable costs, and checking into options. Roku looks closer to ala carte programming like I want, but I how much do the subscription channels run?

Any one with comments after using Roku for a few months?

Thanks. Loren

Re: Any Roku users out there?

oh and the only sub channel we use is hulu plus. Only issue with that is it is only allowed on one device at a time. So everytime I think to try n use it, the kids already have it on

Re: Any Roku users out there?

We mostly watch Hulu and Netflix on our computer. If you have an HD TV, flat screen much newer than ours, you can or at least I think you can hook up your laptop using an HDMI cable. I don't know about towers and if they use HDMI cables or not but our laptop has a connection for HDMI. It's easy and it works. We use our stepsons TV for when we want to watch something on the big screen, lol. I don't have cable or a dish. They cost a lot for channels I will never watch, unless I foresee myself learning an foreign language and listen to music channels.

Re: Any Roku users out there?

A lot of Blue Ray player have these functions built in. I run Amazon and netflics thru my Blue ray. There are a lot of presets for Hulu and other brands. My internet is too slow for things like Couch Tuner. That will soon be solved I hope.

Re: Any Roku users out there?

I have Roku & have been using it for over a year. Works very well with my wireless modem in my house. Netflix costs $8.00 a month. The only complaint is that a lot of the movies netflix offers are not current.....they should show newer, better movies IMO.

Re: Any Roku users out there?

This is helping, thanks. Any guesses on how much horsepower the internet feed needs to keep up with the streaming? I think we're at 3MBps; do I need to pony up for something faster?

Re: Any Roku users out there?

When we first got our wireless it was very basic. I don't remember how much. It did the job for us. Later we upgraded to a more "faster" modem or whatever you call it. I can't tell the difference.

Re: Any Roku users out there?

I used one for several years, originally buying it to stream Netflix, but it has much more than that. I disconnected it when I got a Blueray player that does the same thing. I will reconnect it, if I ever get around to putting a tv in my bedroom, nice device, always worked well for me...I hear the newer ones are better than my old one, but its fine for what I need.

Re: Any Roku users out there?

We have Roku and like it. Still finding features it has. We don't watch too much TV. Our antenna (digital) works great and is free. Unless the wind blows hard you would never know its not cable. Other than we have 40 channels instead of 400.

We pay 8 bucks a month for Netflix. They also have PPV. But we have yet to use that.

Re: Any Roku users out there?

we got a roku a few years ago only because some programming I wanted was no longer available through satellite. we still have satellite but I like that with the roku you have the ability to pick and choose what channels that you want. all the subscription channels range in price from a few dollars to ten or so per month and a lot of them are free! As far as your speed is concerned 3mbps will stream it but you may have some buffering. 5mbps is pretty safe for continual streaming in 1080p with no major buffering issues.
