72 Hitch with rear tank?

Searched a bit but wanted opinions about my setup.

72 c10 short
5.3 4l60e conversion
Boyd rear tank
Heated springs by PO ( will correct soon with 3/5)
The Truck will/does sit low so hidden hitch? *heard bad things about ECE?*
Maybe a spring helper for heavy loads?

LS conversion went amazing so, time for some beach trips and I want to buy a boat. 16-25ft center console for fishing
I would also like to pull my bmw e36 track car to the races or Tail of the Dragon.

Never weighed it.

Trailer is pretty light.

Re: 72 Hitch with rear tank?

That's exactly my setup minus ece hitch. I have some generic hitch with the center section flipped so the reciever is at license plate height.

You probably shouldn't tow anything... ever... lmao!
Better get some tow mirrors too.

I assume the center section is bolt on?

Re: 72 Hitch with rear tank?

Yeah the center just bolted to the sides. Not a universal hitch it is probably for a 67-88 it is the right width and I think the bolt holes even ligned up. My fuel cell is sandwiched between the hitch and frame with a couple extra bolts so I don't have to wrestle with them both at the same time when replacing the fuel pump.

Re: 72 Hitch with rear tank?

CPP has a hidden hitch that attaches to the outside of the frame rather than the typical bottom mount so it should not interfere with the Boyd's tank. This is what I have found anyway, I have looked at a bunch to find one that will work with my Boyd tank. I have yet to buy a hitch just spent a bunch of time looking for one to work with my tank.

Re: 72 Hitch with rear tank?

Hi Windsma, Im 57 years old and have had my share or retail therapy and of all purchases in my life i contacted ECE with a defective premature sagging spring and they were top notch, bar none. Had me tape measure to verify, and promptly sent new ones with return postage paid. I just installed their stainless rear gas tank (outside vender supplied to ece) and i already had their hidden hitch installed and all is great. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for in my mind, no regrets. Support these vendors that supply specific parts (not generic crap). They stuck their neck out with money and time at a time where it was a roll of the dice, and still back their products through economic turbulence. Long after the sweet taste of cheapness comes the sour bad breath of poor quality. I realize you were just asking about ECE, not implying there was anything bad with ECE. Ps, your truck looks great. Good luck, Brian Fuller

Re: 72 Hitch with rear tank?

I have the ECE hidden hitch installed with a Boyd tank in the rear and it fit great. I haven't used it as the truck isn't running yet but from what I saw of the install the hitch seemed to be fine.

Re: 72 Hitch with rear tank?

The ECE hitch is a bottom mount, if you use it you will sandwich the tank between the frame and hitch. Steel/aluminum/steel. An aluminum sandwich, yummy!

No problems with mine after 5 years of abuse.
