Way back in 2006, I posted a picture of my 1970 C20 in a thread that was talking about factory auxiliary gas tanks. Unknown to me until a couple of days ago, a couple of board members asked questions regarding my truck. I recently saw another thread about auxiliary tanks so it inspired me to go out and take some pictures of mine. I do believe that this is a factory tank installation. I have never seen another one...so maybe it was dealer, although it's on the glovebox sticker.

My apologies for not answering the questions....I think you asked for pictures so here they are.

i know that there were some... im not sure if that is where it was placed. I looked it up in the fsm. they call for a saddle tank. that is in the same location as the blazer. where is your tank switch at

Come to think of it - First we had the filler neck and gas tanks in the cab. Then we had a filler neck right above the tail pipe,, Boy times sure were simple back in the day...

Guys, Honestly I don't know what size the tank is....I really think it is a blazer tank.....but I do believe it is factory installed.

My tank switch is a lever on the floor by the drivers door. It has a tag on it and it looks factory too. I don't know if there was originally a switch for the gas guages somewhere else but I have a toggle switch mounted in the dash that the previous owner looks like he added. I will try to get a picture of both switches tonight.

nope thats factory. factory put the switch on the floor.

At least In '72 there was a switch on the far left of the dash by the drivers door opening w-strip.

Thats what I like about this board, You learn something new every day. That looks to be factory right down to the original style hose clamps used. Along with the SPID.

Switch locations and another underneath picture...complete with some sort of weed hanging off the rear of the frame...

The dash switch looks like it was added later...it just switches the sender units. The switch is the one with the white label. The other racing style switch is for an electric fuel pump that the PO installed by the rear tank. If necessary, usually on hot days, it can be switched on to help the stock fuel pump.

Very Interesting!

Notice the line on the SPID for the side-mounted spare. The space normally occupied by the spare is taken by the auxiliary tank. I also like the label fastened to the rocker.

Ok I have a 72 Longbed with a tank mounted between front of bed and rear wheel on driversside,with tank switch on floor by door. The filler tube is in wheel well opening. Is this a factory tank???

if it is listed on the SPID, then it was factory installed, if it isn't mentioned, then it isn't factory installed.
Yours sounds like it is not factory, nor even dealer installed. Probably something out of the catalogs from back in the day.

If the SPID is the list on glove box door it is gone. But to me it looks after market. It is made with square corners and welded instead of stamped or formed. Thanks for replay Longhorn.

That would be an aftermarket installation.Some filled in the wheelwell and others filled behind surface-mount doors.The only factory auxilary tanks were in`70,like this one,and`72 like the blue and white truck shown.Both filler through the body like the main tank with the filler neck running down inside the bedside behind a steel cover.

Good question, the three I'm aware of were all C20 3/4t trucks. It was not available in trucks with upper (beltline) moulding.

On the other thread (link above), someone was quoting from the 1970 Truck Data Book and it did say C/K 20 series only. Cool option!!

1970 Sales Data Book lists them in the CK10 section with the only restriction being to chassis cab or pickup applications. Makes sense as it was about the same as the Blazer and Suburban/Panel tank setup.

OK I found the bit about the stripes and moldings quoted from the 70 TDB.
