Need help doing TBI to carb swap differently to everyone else.

I have a 1994 Z71 350 TBI engine and am building a Vortec roller motor to swap out. I will be running a carb (its just my preference). Everything I read says use HEI dis, but Holley sells a throttle position sensor for the carb. What I'm wondering is if I use the throttle position sensor on the carb can I keep my factory distributor and use the factory transmission controller. This would save a bundle of money and keep it dependable. Has anyone tried this?
