Re: What's it worth

That dump bed did not come on the truck from the factory.

Pics of engine bay? Pics of interior? Pics of undercarrige? More pics of exterior?

10/20/30 series? Big block/small block/6 cyl? Manual or auto? 205 or 208?

Re: What's it worth

It has a 350 auto and 205 if I remember correctly. I don't have any more pictures because the owner wasn't around but he did answer my call and tell me all about it.

He did say the dump bed came factory and he has the paper work to prove it but again that's me just telling you what I was told

Re: What's it worth

The dump bed maybe came from the dealer, or maybe the dump bed factory, but not the GM factory. A big question on value is going to be what series the truck is 10/20/30.

Re: What's it worth

I will take a swing at it.

Dump bed, if not rusted badly and working and no leaks and installed correctly (as you state) - $1200 (these go about $3500 new now + install (which is not difficult if it is electric over hydraulic, I am guessing that it is.)

Truck - If 4wd works properly, no leaks of fluid anywhere, starts/runs/idles, etc., only cosmetics on interior needed, and little to no rust - $1100.

So, $2300 - assuming that it is a reliable nice looking truck.

If you don't know much about these old squares, just peruse this fourum a bit and you will see that you can count an replacing just about all the wear parts over time, like any vehicle. Some parts are no longer available. Some parts are ridiculously expensive - like a factory dash pad if you can find one. On the other hand, if you are willing to have just a driver/beater you can run these old trucks for quite a while. I personally would look for a 1987 model year to get rid of the carburetor issues (most here will say carburetors are not a problem, but I disagree0)

If you really want this truck I would still wait a while. This truck will be a gas hog and a later model fuel injected truck is what most people will want to buy. If you intend to drive it rarely then never mind getting a newer truck.

Re: What's it worth

BTW - that dump bed will probably have a 3 ton rating but you would not want to load it that much. My 83 C20 has a dump conversion (not a dump insert like this one) and I am about 5600 lbs empty and 8600 max GVWR - so only about 3000 lbs payload possible. My truck will only lift 2000 lbs. because the hoist is moved farther to the rear to accommodate dual tanks, but that is using the pickup bed as the dump bed, so I would not put more than 2000 lbs in it anyway.

For reference, filling up my bed with dirt about 10-11" deep is one ton. On the other hand, you can load all the yard waste and general trash you want high up above the cab and not get to 2000 lbs.
