94 Chevy 1500 only runs when you pat gas

Just picked up a 94 Chevy Z71 with the 350 TBI engine. I put fresh gas in it, but it will only stay running if you pat the throttle, otherwise it shuts off no matter where the pedal position is. Any ideas???

I would start with the TPS. Check it to see if it's bad, or the connection is loose or corroded, and replace if necessary.

Here's a thread which sounds similar to what you are experiencing, but no response as to what worked. There are some other suggestions too. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=414355

It could be a plugged up fuel filter, and wiggling the gas pedal triggers fuel enrichment.

I would replace the fuel filter, and if it still has problems I would test the fuel pressure.

There are several failures that can cause low fuel pressure.

As these trucks get older it is becoming a common problem for the rubber hose in the tank between the fuel pump and the sending unit to split. It seems like when the TBI trucks sit a long time without being driven the hose inside the fuel tank deteriorates faster.

Did you give the model, year, engine, fuel system type, and transmission information?
If it is modified from what came stock from the factory, let us know that too.

Thank you. I put a $40 TPS on it today with no change

Not to be a smart aleck, but that is why you test it rather than just throw new parts at it 'hopin' it fixes it. I have been through this and there is lots of info on how to test the sensors.
