Bagged '62 Big Window Short Fleet

Very excited about my new project, should be a lot of fun. Let's start with some pics shall we:

62 big window short bed fleet side
283 with cam, 327 heads with valve work, holley 650 cfm double pumper, headers, true duals with 12" glass packs dumped after the cab, low mount alternator, extras. Polished Th350 with lokar shifter, custom alum drive line, 10 bolt rear with 4.10s.
Suspension is thorbros front p47 with 3" spindles, CPP disc, slam bags all around, speedway engineering spline style sway bar, rear is triangulated 4 link with custom notch work, tubing braces and cross members, all shocks are 10 way adjustable rancho.
Air management is currently 4 valves, front/ back only, 2 7 gallon tanks, 2 viair 350 compressors, toggle switches.
Wheels are stock steel, rears are reversed for offset. Tires are 820 firestones.
Inside it has buddy buckets out of a 68, looks to be original material. All black Stewart Warner gauges, everything works. Shaved dash, battery mounted under passenger floorboard.

Things I'm going to upgrade/ fix:
Add a dual needle gauge for front/ back airbag pressures (there is only tank pressure now)
Add thermostat for rad fan (on/off switch currently)
Add pressure switch to air management (on/off switch currently)
Add in line slow downs for the lift (drop has slow downs but lift is waaaay to fast)
Fit doors and good, they are sloppy now.
Re-jet or replace carb. Seems over carbureted at the moment.
Replace mufflers with something less intense. Probably manga flows.
Find OG passenger front fender (I have drivers) and trim them for clearance/ reinforce and install
Find door glass (have wings and rubbers)
Build raised wood bed floor with wheel tubs (later)
Re-blast and primer hood.

I know this isn't everything. Let me know what you think, I'll be chipping away at the build when I can. Should be a blast!

Looks like it has the same front suspension as mine.

Only a few. Haven't had much time to work on the truck, changing jobs and moving. But soon I will.

I put a smaller edelbrock carb on to replace the oversized holley. Runs much better already but still needs some jetting and tuning.

Have a full accuair e-level set up ready to be installed, could not be more excited to get this in.

Have mufflers waiting to go on as well. Purchased one set that didn't fit and these should be perfect. Needed to quiet it down a bit from the small glasspacks.

I'll make sure I post progress once I have something done haha. Thanks for checking in!

Re: Bagged '62 Big Window Short Fleet

Finally, some time to post updates:

The simple stuff first - swapped out the lug nuts for some short bullet style units. Simple, but I much prefer them to the mismatched set on there before.

As I mentioned, I swapped the carb to a smaller (600cfm) unit, but that didn't really do the trick. Bit the bullet and bought a refurb 500cfm Edelbrock which solved my issues well.

Think it was running rich before? Cleaned and re-gapped all the plugs.

Picked up an old (I think Cadillac) air cleaner from a swap, cleaned it up with CLR and shot it with gloss clear. Got a new filter unit and adapter ring and plopped it on. Really liking the look.

Re: Bagged '62 Big Window Short Fleet

Then came the Accuair install. Took the time to make some 2-level wheel cribs which helped a ton when working on the truck aired out.

Got the old set-up removed from the front and rear. Here's the naked frame. Offset on the reverse steel wheels made it near impossible to remove them without unbolting the 4 link. Scared for a flat that's for sure.

New bags all around, went with Air Lift D2600 Dominator, much better than the smaller slams.

Ran all of the wiring through the frame, hidden from view for the most part. Trimmed the e-level sensor wires to length based on their end locations, everything ran through grommets.

Re: Bagged '62 Big Window Short Fleet

Then it was time to build the half bed floor which will act as a compartment or shelf once the full raised floor is built at a later date. The theory on this is to have all of the air management accessible once the tailgate is down. Thinking of relocating the battery back there too and maybe a cool period-correct tool box? Started with some rough cuts of white oak:

Cut them to shape, beveled the edges per spec for the metal runners.

Bent up some brackets out of aluminum sheet for the air tank and accuair manifold and computer to mount.

Strips cut to length and laid in for layout purposes.

Sanded, stained, and oiled the wood to finished state. This is right after install.

Everything ran through grommets, wires done as cleanly as I could.

Did my e-level calibration and initial testing on the wheel stands, worked out great. Ready to come down and go for a shake down run.

Re: Bagged '62 Big Window Short Fleet

Accuair system is such a pleasure to drive, I really couldn't recommend it more. Ride is so much better as well with the larger diameter bags. Very pleased overall.

Here's how she sits now. Onto some body panel fitment issues, trimming the front fenders a bit more for turning clearance, etc.

Sorry to say it this way, as it always sounds half hearted, but I just love what you have done with the truck.

I would be happy to cruise in that.
