Weber 32/36 tuning suggestions
Recently installed a Weber 32/36 on my 250. I've have gotten to know this carb pretty well, though I'm still figuring out the most useful book to get as opinions vary....I have read the numerous tuning guides online and it's gone as well as can be expected for a first time install. I'm close to dialing it in, but still have one major issue. Warmed up idle is fine, give it gas sounds fine up the RPMs, can hear the second barrel kick in (!!!), take foot off pedal and it stalls. It will not return to idle. I've ordered a jet kit and went as far as finding a lightly used Carter electric fuel pump to install if need be. Fuel line is mostly stock with 5/16 fuel hose where needed and the mechanical pump has good pressure. Not ruling out fuel starvation, but other than re-jetting where needed (which very well could be the solution!) and fuel pump (again, opinions vary on the need for it) is there something I'm missing or need to take into consideration? Thanks !!!

If you hold the pedal does it stay at the same RPM? Lets say you increase it to 2500 rpm...does it stay there? I'm thinking your idle adjustment screw is backed out to far.

Re: Weber 32/36 tuning suggestions
Steady RPM and proper vacuum at 2500+. BTW the engine has less than 60k on it, the compression is fine, HEI installed and timing set properly, etc. I was prepared to go through this learning curve to get it right. All insights are appreciated.
I have gone back to the baseline settings multiple times and tuned up to the point where jet assessment is recommended for lean or rich conditions. Too many turns in or out from spec always goes back to the jetting size + or -.... I just thought regardless of the initial jet size it shouldn't die when the I let off the pedal.

Re: Weber 32/36 tuning suggestions
Sure as heck beats my little bit of knowledge. If it idles fine....runs at RPM fine...but when you let the gas off it dies...doesn't make sense. What's your fuel pump pressure and float setting? Only thing I can think of would be that too much fuel is going in while the engine is coming back down to idle causing it to stall. Maybe from too much pump pressure....or wrong float setting. I'm running out of ideas for not actually being able to be there.

Re: Weber 32/36 tuning suggestions
Well, last night I discovered one thing for sure. I cranked the idle speed up to well above a reasonable idle and got it to stay running rough from WOT. But in doing so, I could actually hear and feel the fuel line struggling and the fuel pump was making a noise I'd never heard before. I am convinced that the 46 year old stock fuel pump either can't keep up with the carb's demand or it just konked out. I will install the Carter elec. pump (recommended by the folks at the Classic Inlines site) and see if that helps. I'm pretty sure I'll have to do some jet juggling as well, but at least I can rule out any fuel delivery issues. Thanks TJ for your input. With every one of these challenges I learn more about my truck and her buzzin' half dozen !!!

Re: Weber 32/36 tuning suggestions
Hope the new pump helps! Far as I know you won't need to change the jets out. Drive it for awhile and if your plugs are black convert to an HEI and a little warmer plug with a wider gap and more timing.

Re: Weber 32/36 tuning suggestions
Thanks man. HEI swap happened before the carb adventure, but bumping up to a hotter plug might not be a bad idea, I'll keep that in mind. Really want to get her back on the road soon.
Just realized you had a Tube channel, brother that is one boss 6 !!! Whole project looks great. Definitely an inspiration !!!

Re: Weber 32/36 tuning suggestions
Thanks! Its always good to have encouragement. lol Just got the thing mounted to the frame yesterday. And finally found out my tremec would work with this engine! So far. lol Gotta run it and drive it to be sure. On my old 292 that I had in my 66 before I started restoring it I put a 600 cfm edelbrock, clifford manifold and headers and Speedmaster HEI with NGK BPR5ES plugs on it. The step hotter from the 6ES Really helped. I put my gap at .050 and I got it to where it was a clean burn.
