aftermarket grill hardware

I am working on a 71/72 grill and bought the aftermarket hardware bag from one of the vendors. I am trying to get the white plastic clips in to the square holes and just cant get them to seat. has anyone else used them and come up with a solution to get them in without breaking them? If so, what did you do? I have broke one but thankfully there was an extra one included

Re: aftermarket grill hardware

Lightly file the edge of the hole to make sure there is no burr that is digging into the plastic insert. Warm the plastic insert in a cup of very hot water to make it more pliable and apply a little liquid soap or Vaseline around the hole to make it slide in easier. (No pun intended)
