Sold my 1971 Chevy shortbed stepside tonight.

Well, it's gone. I'm super excited to have sold my project to a great guy. Kendall came and picked the truck up tonight, he also bought my cab that I had restored. I snapped this picture of him before he drove off.

Re: Sold my 1971 Chevy shortbed stepside tonight.

I sold the truck to pay for a veterinarian bill. My dog "Bear" tore his cranial cruciate ligament in his hind leg and it was making a awful popping sound and he couldn't bear any weight on it. This has been a ongoing issue that was always limited to a day of soreness and he'd been fine like nothing happened. This last time he injured the leg I knew it was bad and took him to the Emergency Animal Clinic where they diagnosed him within a minute of watching him walk. He had the surgery yesterday. Bear is at home now on the mend. I'll be super happy to see him be able to resume normal activities once he heals up.

Glad to see you taking care of your best friend. I hope you are able to get another truck later on.

Beautiful truck and dog! I'm sorry that you seemed forced to sell. I just sold my 63 Nova to fund my truck. Didn't want to sell it and it was tough to see her go but times and priorities change.

Normally I would have kept both but money is tight lately and I needed a truck...

Thanks Tom. I love my buddy and hate to see him in any pain. I'm going to try to hold off for little while. As hard as it maybe I will wait and just browse craigslist for the right deal to come along. The next one will be a fleetside.

Thank you. It was kinda a forced sell only because I don't want to pay the finance charges on the Care Credit Card after the 6 months interest free is up lol. That could be truck money .

Thank you. Bear is more alert now since he isn't in so much pain, he starting to act himself. When I take him outside I have to support his body with a sling to keep him from putting any force down on his hind leg. It's going to be a long 12 weeks. I'm hoping for a busy construction season so I can play again soon!

Any man that would scarafice his pickup for his dog is a REAL MAN in my opinion ! Any metal object can be replaced, but one of God greatest creatures CAN NOT be replaced ! May the good lord watch over you both, and to Bear, you have a wonderful dad who loves you so much.....

Thanks, that put a bright spot in my day. We need more guys like you and I in the world.

That truck of yours is going to carry a lot of good karma with the new owner. Hopefully we will get to hear more with your best friend healing up and that truck rollin on for many more years.

Thanks Ray. It is bitter sweet to see the truck go with all the amount of work that Vic1947 and I had in it. All in all though I'm really happy how everything worked out and Bear is taken care of.

Thank you for the kind words. The driveway definitely looks empty now, but it went to a great guy that has even bigger plans for it. I will post Bears recovery updates, right now I'm just praying he doesn't lick the incisions or they might have to redo the surgery if he gets a infection.

Re: Sold my 1971 Chevy shortbed stepside tonight.

Here is what the truck looked like when I bought it in the Fall of 2014. Everything was basically removed from the truck and was replaced with new except the exterior sheet metal. The truck got a new wiring harness, brakes, glass, springs, shocks, engine, radiator, core support, inner fenders, hood hinges, hood latch, new 69-70 grill, mirrors, exhaust, tilt, tach, buddy buckets etc.

Sorry to hear about the misfortune Scott. Good luck to you and Bear. You have a lot of friends in your area that can keep a lookout for another truck for you when you are ready.

Thank you Leon. I'm hopeful I can get through Bears rehab without any other exuberant unexpected cost related too it. After he is all healed up and is taken care of I will be on the search again .

Thanks Jason, I appreciate the kind words. I'm missing it right now. What made me really happy about this whole deal is Kendall smiling real big when he was driving away. It always put a big smile on my face too when I was driving it. I did a few things before he took it home. I install some 4 degree wedges to fix the rear end vibration and I installed a new billet steering wheel adapter. The other metal adapter had too much play in it.

Re: Sold my 1971 Chevy shortbed stepside tonight.

Sorry about the lack of a update on Bear, but he recovered amazing. I'm extremely happy to have Bear back to full speed and I have no regrets selling my truck to take care of him. The down time was 12 weeks without any off leash activity which seemed like eternity. After the surgery was done I also opted to have Bear do the rehab for a hour once a week. The rehab consisted of hydrotherapy which is basically a big tank of water with a treadmill in it. After about week 8 I could see Bear improving rapidly. I was told he wouldn't be 100% but at least he wouldn't be in pain. I'm pretty sure Bear is now 100% after the surgery and you'd never know he had anything wrong with his leg. He is doing everything he was doing prior to tearing his ligament in the hind leg. I have a short clip of Bear running around and will post it once I figure out how to load it.
