K20 - 16" Wagon Wheels or 2009 17" Alloys

Hi All

I need some tires and I'm debating on sticking with my 16" wagon wheels with 235/85R16's or switching to a 2009 OEW 17" rim with 245/75R17's on my 72 K20

Is there any advantage or disadvantage with going for the 17's?

Chris

My vote is to stick with the wagon wheels. They're obviously not factory, but they look more like it, and that's my personal preference. Saves you cash too!

Your call of course, it's your truck!

17" wheels would look a little too "new fangled" for a K20 imho. I'd go wagons, steelies, or slots. I've been trying to sell my chrome wagon wheels for over a year, just gave them away with a truck I sold. Still, I think they're a better choice than anything 17".

If I'm not mistaken the back space on the late model wheels is quite a bit different that our trucks use. Something to keep in mind. I've seen some trucks locally with 01-07 hd wheels on them and while they bolt up the wheels didn't look good in the wheel wells to me, they seem tucked in quite a bit compared to my stock steels.

I like the wagon wheels. But 17s wouldn't look wrong if you ask me. Can people tell a 16 from a 16.5 looking at a truck? I see the Hummer wheels, on 4wds mostly, and they don't stand out as larger. I've stuck with 16.5s till last summer and running 16s. They say 17s are the new 16s. Not that 16s are going anywhere soon, but if they came out with 17" aluminum slots I'd be all over them. You can't tell me they would look any bigger than the 16.5s we've been looking at all these years.

Re: K20 - 16" Wagon Wheels or 2009 17" Alloys

It sounds like its strictly an aesthetic issue, if I do go with the 17"s I have some spacers for the rear wheels to push them out 2". I know what you mean about new wheels not looking right, but I saw a pick of some that were painted white with silver caps and another set painted charcoal and they didn't look bad. Of course now that I'm completing the change I can't find the pictures.
