Symptoms of a bad axle?

Hello, just checking in with you guys on what the symptoms of a worn would be. I have newer rear bearings and was checking around the rear end yesterday and noticed I have some noticeable play on my drivers axle that does not exist on the passenger side. This is not in/out play, but up and down and side to side. Is there supposed to be a very tight tolerance her? And what what be happening if this play was excessive? Thanks!

If the play you are talking about is at the wheel (moves up/down left/right) it seems like that would be play at the bearing.

What axle do you have? If it is a full-floating axle, you may just need to go in there and tighten the spindle nut/lock ring/nut combo to take the slack out of the bearing. If it is a semi-floating axle, check the flange mounting bolts. make sure they are all there and tight. If you pass both of these tests, your bearings are probably toast.

Did you replace the races when you replaced the bearings? Bearings will wear a pattern into the race over time, and if you just replace the bearings you could have a mismatch.
