My current one
250 with cam, 4bbl carb/manifold, cast iron manifolds with duals thru Cherry bombs.

I am also a fan of the Jeep 4.0 6, as well as the Ferd 300 6. Both are very good and stout engines. My 280Z also had a very good one.

I think what kills the format for many companies, is the engine is too long to turn sideways for a front wheel drive car.

In Australia they had a Hemi Six Charger coupe:

I've never owned but always loved the Chevy big six 292. I've got a friend in CO with a 66 K/20 with the 292. I actually wouldn't mind grafting one into my 76 GMC in place of the 350. I did have a 230 straight six (65 c/10) for a while, and also the old 235 in my big old 58 boom truck.

My daughter had a 300 F*** for a while and it might have been a good engine but I wasn't impressed with the pickup. Now she has an F-350 V-10

Brand F came out with anT drive to make it work, but from what I read it was a bit out of hand.

Inline 6's produce great instant part throttle torque. Largely due to long stroke, and camshaft combo. Due to modern taste in engines. Most people now want a engine that revs to make power even if they do not use it that way. American inline 6 guns were not set up that way.

Plus balance shafts in the V6 made the smoothness of the inline engine with out the packaging considerations.

Huge fan of the Vortec 4.2 that was in the Trailblazer and Envoy, the Atlas engine program was in my opinion one of GMs best.

I've owned several of them in envoys and trailblazers and they were always reliable and given the right maintenance they last forever.

Ive never been a six fan, but for awhile my dad had a little Dodge Dart with a slant six and we beat the crap outta that thing when we were kids and it never skipped a beat.

Yeah, I think brand F is a good example of why the inline 6 didn't get traction with regular passenger cars. On something like a Maverick you would have the 250 six and then the 302 V8. The 300 was like the 250, only better and again set up for big torque at low rpm, not high revs and top end power. So, it was reserved for pick ups and commercial applications. That's the way it was, at a certain point the small V8s took over in the passenger car line.

I have read that the dealer Paxton blower option on the Blue Flame powered C1 Corvettes really improved acceleration, but haven't seen any magazine times. Dealers liked to add Judson and Paxton blowers on anything in those days, even Renault Dauphines! On the Corvette I think it would have fixed the performance problem with the automatic only coupe, but sales probably stayed low because it wasn't a factory option and the public just didn't know about the blower.

The BMW engine was crap . We did more warranty work on them than the 258 . Just like in 62 when my uncle refused to sell Mercedes . Not many people know Studebaker was the sole importer of MercedesThe reason my uncle stopped was the Mercedes was the the repairs . They were crap

Nope just the car division . Studebaker owned Clark equipment , Gravely tractors Paxton products and Worthington corporation . They only stopped making cars in 66 they also own STP, they may have dropped the Studebaker brand name but it's really still in business

Studebaker bought out McCulloch in the 50s to produce the golden hawk and Packard hawks with supercharged engines. In 63 the Avanti was the fastest production car in the world . Ya it's all about Chevy

Like to see a stock car do 168 mph today I got in trouble on the the Indy 500 track . We had a show there and we were able to go around the track. Me and another guy in a r3 lark were kicked off the track seems they dont like street cars going 135mph. My Avanti was doing 4 grand had another 1000 before redline
