side car bikers or trikers

Any of you biker dudes have the side cars? I always thought it might be cool riding in one.
Any preference of trikes over sidecars?

Re: side car bikers or trikers

Sidecars are cool because they are bikes even though there are three wheels. It's a bike with sidecar. It's a traditional configuration and the sidecar can be removed. What's coolest about them is you get to sit 'next to' your passenger. I'm not too big on trikes, except when a rider has no choice, such as bad legs. But still the sidecar rig is cooler. The only trike I like is a Servicar, cuz I'm a pickup guy and a Harley guy Perfect combination!
They are just too cool

Re: side car bikers or trikers

My 'lil sis and her hubby rode bikes some years ago. He had a Chippy bike and a custom and she had a trike. She wasn't really big enough to hold up a full grown HD so she got the trike. They ran down many miles of non inter state highways. Her trike wouldn't get around a semi at 75 so she had it "tuned". Took care of that.

Re: side car bikers or trikers

Sidecars. I have a friend who hasn't had the use of his legs for many years. He builds a sidecar and makes hand controls. He has built all sorts of custom bikes with sidecar. He loves to ride.

The first would be my dream, '66, but I'd take 66-69 (sidecar or not!)

Saved me a lot of typing, thanks.

And you can still lean on left hand corners with a side car, if you want to. Fun.

A side car AND a trailer?

A big cruiser just looks Right with wires and white walls.
That is a classy ride.

Re: side car bikers or trikers

My dad's friend had a Servicar when I was a kid. I remember him taking me to little league practice, me riding in the box. I was on top of the world. Me and my sisters would pile in and he'd ride us around.

Ollie Davis would ride his dog around in his side car here in town. I guess he's not riding any more. Getting up there. He was old when he rode his dog around

Re: side car bikers or trikers

There is quite the variety of trikes available these days. Wooo, HD's are pricey. I see Indian has some also.
And the side cars, from the early designs to the modern and the customs, lots to like there.

Interesting variety of designs too. Some look like a boat and some look like a blimp. Then there is an early one for the delivery business and one for the shelf.

Goulding was a company (still is) that made nice ones, the Rocket and the Lite. They also built bodies/enclosures for Servicar package trucks. These sidecars were the lmin-truck of the day

Re: side car bikers or trikers

My dad's teaching buddy had an ex-police Servicar. Dicky Woodard, I do believe he was a childhood idol of mine. He was the woodshop teacher. This was in the early-60s when folk music was big. He and my dad had students in the shop in the evenings making guitars! Dicky was into old cars, making string instruments (playing them all) and building boats. He quit teaching to open a guitar shop. He let a former student take that over and went on to open a car shop with his brother. He was a big influence on me for taking things on if that's what I wanted to do. My dad was a great influence and he had the coolest friends as well. Always some kind of tinkering action going on. They ended up building a VW powered Servicar. Not like the trike choppers you saw come along later. This had the full Harley sheet metal appearance with the VW engine out of view. I remember they poured lead to fill the fork and anywhere else they could add weight. That thing liked to do wheelies!

Never showed this one either. When this thread started I made sub-folders for sidecars and Servicars. These were in with the 2-wheelers. I see more fun here

I have had both Servicars and sidecars, and preferred the sidecar. Lost my last one to a fire, 1949 HD Panhead.
