What Is This Missing Plate Below The VIN Plate

There are four holes and the remnants of rivets in them in my door jamb. What do you suppose was mounted there? It's a 1968 shortbed 2wd.

Noting to color, It’s possible that it was a feet truck, so it may have been a maintenance record plate.

- body upfitter tag if it (or that cab ) had a utility body, stake bed, etc.

- military or GSA asset tag if it was purchased on .mil or .gov contract

got a picture of the spid handy to post?

Unfortunately the SPID was removed by a previous owner and the seat was replaced so there is no build sheet.

Maybe it was a CalTrans truck like this one. It is the right color.

Re: What Is This Missing Plate Below The VIN Plate

Being a CalTrans truck might also explain why my truck has blue/yellow plates from 71/72 instead of black/yellow plates from 68. It might have had exempt plates that had to be replaced when the truck was sold.

I've found other photos of 1968 VIN plates online, and they look like mine, so I'm pretty sure what I've got there is correct for my year. The drilled out rivets are not on even spacing, and I'm guessing the rivets on your big VIN plate are evenly spaced.

I'm missing the second one down, the GM certification plate. The rivets are there. What's up with that?

68s had those 2 plates. 71/72 didn’t. Not sure about 67 or 69.
