97 Tahoe Multi function switch replacement

Alright! Who has done this before?

I need to replace mine and wanted some tips if you have any. I watched a video from A1 Auto and the video was great, but I wanted to know if you really need to remove the steering wheel.

I have replaced the ignition lock cylinder some time ago and got pretty much to the same place without removing the wheel. No issues that I remember. Splitting the plastic column cover can be tricky, but not too bad if you know the tricks.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Been many years, but you'll need to remove airbag and wheel to chage it. I sure was saying bad words to mine at the time as I had an old ferd b4 it and it was easy as pie on the ford, but no Chevy says take all the wheel and crap off.

Re: 97 Tahoe Multi function switch replacement

I got that knocked out this morning in 90 min or so. Thankfully without removing the steering wheel. I do see the advantage of doing that, but with a little extra time spent it was worth not removing it.

Here a few pics below of the job.

Here is one of the gotchas of the job. Accessing this T25 screw. I made it work.

Old and new

Completed job.

Now I need to clean the rest of the dash! This new multi fuction switch is making the entire dash look bad!
