Dashcam Recommendations

I'm thinking about putting a dashcam in the Blazer now that I've got it back on the road. I'd like to hear about any of your experiences with specific models, both positive and negative.

Thanks

Re: Dashcam Recommendations

I have blackvue...its on the upper end of the cost scale...it has front and rear cameras and parked impact detection ..the 1st version I had ,had some problems...I replaced it with the updated one and it's worked flawless...
I work with several guys that have the cheap ones Walmart sells...they're pleased with them..

Re: Dashcam Recommendations

.

I've got a cheap one that I've used. It worked fine...if you wanted to save some footage, just hit a button on the unit ( which records only one direction and audio ) and it will save off a configurable amount of time in the past and the next little while. Otherwise it writes 10MB files over and over again, eventually overwriting previous footage. The buffer length depends on how big your storage chip is. On mine I think it was around an hour or so that I could look back into the past.

I'm interested to know what features regarding storage, size of video files, etc are like on the more expensive hardware.

Eventually, I turned off the audio on my camera for security reasons...I talk to myself while driving and it's not always pleasant and can be revealing as that time in my mind is personal. So I decided I didn't want a record of that. Some time after that I used the same set of arguments applied to my driving style to justify the end of my dash cam experiment.

EDIT: I'd offer mine up to you, but I must admit I still use it at car shows in my classic. Although the last time I did that, all the footage was lost when I put the thing in the glove box without powering it down. It recorded nothing but black screen for the ride home and into the night before the battery died.

YMMV

That sounds like something I might do...

Re: Dashcam Recommendations

Thinking about getting one that we could move from vehicle to vehicle ...

Mostly for long trips, the traffic around here just isn't that stupid most of the time.

Re: Dashcam Recommendations

Friend of mine and I use Rexing V1s for dash cams, I have no complaints.
