Bench seat frames all the same ?

I have a 67 I am working on, I am about to order new foam and a cover for it. Are the 67 bench seats the same as the later years? Ex could I put 71-72 style houndstooth and foam on this 67 frame without any issues? Thanks.

Re: Bench seat frames all the same ?

Is the 67 frame a flip forward frame ? in 67 there are 2 different frames . full foam and the base model with spring suspension , later model seat covers will not fit a flip forward seat frame . post a picture of the one you want to use .

Re: Bench seat frames all the same ?

Like the buckets, 67-68; 69-70; and 71-72 bench seats all have minor differences, including the mounting brackets. I am sure from owning one of each that the 67-68 seats were definitely a little thinner, particularly in the upper half. On the forum I have read that they are called "half foam" as opposed to the later "full foam" variety.

A good upholsterer could likely make it work - especially if you are using brand new foam - but if you really like the 72 pattern I'd find an old 72 seat to redo.

Re: Bench seat frames all the same ?

USA1 Interiors makes a houndstooth cover that is designed to fit 67-68 folding bench seats. I installed one on my seat, and I'm very happy with it. My seat happened to be the style that has full foam on the bottom cushion. Some bottom cushions have a large set of springs with a thin foam layer on top of the springs. The back cushion on your seat will likely also be made mostly of coil springs with a thin layer of foam sitting on the springs.

Re: Bench seat frames all the same ?

Take a look at my build thread to see what is involved with using a later cover with a 67 frame. I had a set of later 71-72 foam at my disposal and couldn't use it. The frames are totally different in the earlier trucks. The bottom foam is thinner, the back is sprung and just wrapped in 1" foam, and the seat corners are contoured differently.

It is a lot of foam work to build the corners, the base, and the back. Better to buy all 67 specific stuff in my opinion, but it's definitely possible!

Chad, I am no expert, but pictures of your frame will enable the “oh knowledgeable” experts here, to tell you how Exactly what you need. I’m thinking there are different options for seats, in all years 67-72.

Re: Bench seat frames all the same ?

My truck came to me butchered with some bucket/buddy seat frame arrangement hobbled together from another vehicle. I found a used a '67 seat frame that folds forward and put the later year upholstery on and installed it in my '69. I did have to trim some of the upholstery cover on the back and sides so the seat could fold forward. I am no pro by any means but it came out decent enough for me. I shot my seat frame with just rust oleum satin black spray bomb can.
