Battery choices

Which battery is best quality as in AGM or gel type? Optima went to crap once they started making them in Mexico. How about Odyssey? Who likes them and who hates them? I want something that will last !

Re: Battery choices

For all my vehicles I get the biggest best AMG that will fit the box at a national chain auto parts store. That way I can get a replacement anytime any where. Not real concerned about the brand these days. I also carry a jump box in every vehicle.

I don't buy batteries anywhere but Costco anymore. They have the best prices and warranties.

You do have to be a Costco member, however, and they don't have quite as wide a selection as auto parts stores.

Re: Battery choices

My go to battery is the marine agm at Sams. $119 and occasionally they knock another $20 off for marine batteries.Requires conversion to top mount posts depending on year of truck.

Re: Battery choices

I've had good luck with AC Delco AGM batteries. I've always got good service out of their batteries- usually needing to be replaced after 7 or 8 years of daily driving use. I've also got a standard lead/acid Exide battery I got at Menards in my '74 that's going on six years old without an issue- it sits during the winter/early spring but gets a battery tender during long stints of being parked to keep it happy.

Re: Battery choices

Duralast Gold has been my go to battery. I totally abused it winching & such with my Blazer and it held up great. So put the same thing in my truck.

Re: Battery choices

Another vote for Interstates from Costco. I just changed the one I bought for my wife's car and it was dated 9/2015.

Interesting fact, Interstates batteries are made by Johnson Controls Inc. and last time I checked the EverStart batteries at Walfart were also made by JCI. Both have the same 3 year warranty. I think JCI manufactures most of the batteries sold in the U.S.

I would rather support Costco than Walfart. Costco employees are treated much better than Walfart.

I had been buying the Everstart Maxx batteries for a few years, as they were same as Interstate, but last one I purchased was no longer made by Johnson Controls. Never noticed until I was installing at home or I would have looked elsewhere. Time will tell. I normally get about 7 years out of a high end Interstate or similar made by Johnson Controls.
