Swap Meet Vrs. Weather

Did a two day swap meet this past weekend and the weather did a quick change from 81, sunny and mild Thursday setup day to cool, windy Friday to a cold, windy, rainy Saturday. I was setup inside, won't do an outside booth....see thread "Arthritis" about that, LOL. Spend too many years working in heat and cold both.

Weather has got to be the worst enemy of swap meets. Went from low 80s to low 40s in less than 48 hours. Today we are in the mid 30s, too much change too soon for this ol man.

Didn't buy anything other than some brass air couplings I needed for my compressor. Sold a few things but did not do near as well as I normally would have in better weather. Still did manage to have a good time, visiting with other vendors I've known thru the years and generally just talking cars and trucks. I really enjoy the people aspect of a swap meet.

Re: Swap Meet Vrs. Weather

I went Friday morning and the wind was pretty cold. Seems like every other year it's cold and the other years are nice. Looked like less people/parts this year too.

This time of year in most of the country, swap meet weather is like a box of chocolates.......

Re: Swap Meet Vrs. Weather

Locally there was a car show at a tire place on Saturday. It's late Oct in MN. It was in mid 30's and windy. Needless to say maybe 10 cars showed up.
I don't know what the tire shop owner was thinking. A car show outside in late Oct in MN?

Re: Swap Meet Vrs. Weather

Normally this Oct. swap meet has been pretty decent. Not huge but usually a pretty good turn out. One of my best swap finds some years ago at this very meet was when I bought a set of 69-72 tow hooks for a $20 bill ! They're still on my '71 K10 too. A crap shoot for any swap meet in late October but at times it's been very good. This October just wasn't one of those times.

Problem here in Kansas being so centrally located in the US is we get weather from EVERYBODY when they don't want it anymore,

Winter:
Snow and cold off the Rockies to the west, wet and heavy snow with moisture in from the SW or heavy moisture up from the gulf. Frigid Arctic air from our Canadian friends to the north.

Summer:
Warmth and humidity from the Gulf leftovers from hurricanes. Winds and moisture from the Rockies again. Humidity in Kansas is just normally a constant given equation.

But I STILL love me some swap meets.

Re: Swap Meet Vrs. Weather

i dont know how that guy ticked off mother nature but in the 10 tmes i have gone the weather always turns the day of the swap meet.

the spring one I scored a bunch of 47-53 stuff and left even more there. this time i got two chewed up rear fenders and a bunch of nothing. It was an impulse stop in, I forgot my coat. I almost (and really should have) bought the fireman gear in a booth for the coat hahah

Re: Swap Meet Vrs. Weather

October can bring great weather, but you see events coming to a close this time of year because of more frequent rain and cold weather working it's way in. Our season is March-Oct with both ends chancing cold or wet weather. But October has the best weather, too.
