Mine falls out every time I pull the master cylinder out. It still works fine. Sounds like he is trying to sell you a new booster.

He is just trying to make a sale... Just stick the actuator rod back in the booster and bolt it up. It will work unless there is something else wrong with the booster.

If I remember correctly the metal side goes out. If I am wrong, then turn it around.

Mike, I marked an "X" on the rod and washer so you'd know which way it went. That is the way it was when I found it in the box so I'm assuming that is the correct way. Can anyone verify this?

You are talking about the rod that is inside the booster that actually pushes on the master cylinder piston? If so, yes it does come out, and it is adjustable. Look at the ends, one side has the rounded end that unscrews. Place that side towards the master cylinder.
