Mounts built, took 4x4 tubing, cut down cross ways to make 2 mounts, welded the plate on top...
had to cut the front lip off to clear the side of the body on the front mounts welding on the mounts. |

Junkyard score 600 bucks complete 5.3 with 120k on the clicker, powersteering pump, belts, ac, and the entire harness...
Master cylinder installed along with brake pedal assembly notched out my fenders to clear the a-arms, decided i will probably pull them out completely now |

Re: 54 GMC 5 window, s10 frame, 5.3 turbo
well here it is .. after a huge fight getting it out of my ridiculous pickup, a couple hours of fighting getting it in by myself, running to ace several times to get the right bolts this is how she sat, ugly and full of electrical cant even see the motor!
i was skeptical about what to keep and what not to keep on the truck, i was going to rewire the original harness, but scored a painless from my buddy for cheap (well alot cheaper than what they retail) .. that makes it easier.. removed all the electrical, egr has yet to go bye bye but will, deleted my a/c, and hit it with some degreaser.. pulled off the duct tape and strapped a filter off my other turbo just to keep the crap out looks a hell of a lot cleaner, now the decisions.... i ended up turboing my green pickup, learned alot in the process and ended up with an extra turbo, ton of piping, an intercooler and oilpump and other accessories.. thinking of going with the intake, cam, and springs off 2001 ls6.. can pick them up for cheap and support boost really well. plan to push 15lbs thru her.. possible meth injection to keep the iat's cool and 45lb injectors if they will support the power.. walboro 255 inline the push the fuel, and a boost a pump to keep up with the injectors. |

Re: 54 GMC 5 window, s10 frame, 5.3 turbo
Well i ran up north to where i grew up, forgot how much of a hoarder of parts my old man is.. of course he would have the rear end i need.. scored the rear end out of a 68 nova, i beleive it was 59 to the outside of the drums... is that what i need??
picked up the turbo parts Friend showed up and delivered me my painless harness 60 mm turbo with a .96 ar exhaust outlet, perfect setup for this 5.3, of course a garrett and not that cheap chinese junk. Also a same side inlet/outlet intercooler with 3" openings, should flow well |

Re: 54 GMC 5 window, s10 frame, 5.3 turbo
well went junkyard hopping this weekend.. scored an old visor, a cool oil pressure and temperature gauge pod, and a sweet mirror from an old chrysler cheap.. found a 4l80 for cheap also.. thats the route im gunna go.. borrowed my buddies widewites and rims so i could make sure my cab mounts were right, to say the least im doing some moving around.
Starting to look like a classic.... scored an old keg and front bumper from my buddy, i wish the pictures of the keg worked, it was originally flat black with pink and green flowers painted on it.. after some aircraft stripper, a warm bath, and 2 1/2 hours of buffing this is how she came out.. buffed up the grill and what not also POWERED BY OLY! Now im just waiting on the rest of my 4 link parts and motor mounts.. should all be here this week... plan on having one side of this bagged this weekend and the cab permanately fixed, may as well mount the motor too if the mounts come, then i can start tinkering around with turbo setup Last edited by Dmill; 04-16-2012 at 11:12 PM. |

Nice score on the visor, I've been looking for one but can't find any for a good deal, what are your plans for the keg

Re: 54 GMC 5 window, s10 frame, 5.3 turbo
well i was going to keep it a secret becuz i have never seen it done... mounting it on the running board where my spare tire carrier is, pry have to do a little modding and leave out the splash apron.. but i tested it out on my buddies and it looked cool..
plan on making some nice leather strap mounts to go around it and have a local saddlery place do some tooling on it to make it different, maybe some galvanized aircraft looking rivets in it also.. now dont anyone go stealing my idea!!!! scored the visor, old temp and oilpressure gauge, and a drop mirror for 40 bucks... the keg was free because like i said before it was terrible looking, paid 50 for the bumper in the front it has 2 long horns with a bridge and then 2 other horns in between the first 2. 4l80e he said for 600 which is good but my friend assured me i can low ball him and that he needs the money 400 bucks for strong overdrive??? |

Re: 54 GMC 5 window, s10 frame, 5.3 turbo
been a while since i posted, been getting work done on the truck
went to do my cam swap and ended up dropping the last damn lifter down into my motor.. pulled my heads so i could put it back and noticed rust in one cylinder from sitting.. pry would have been ok but dissasembled and am boring it out to a ls1 with forged internals.. expensive little lifter drop.. ended up with 7 layer headgaskets, arp head studs, dished forged pistons put my compression a little under 9.5 to 1.. gunna end up throwing a little nitrous to it also.. picked up the 4l80e trans 99' model and bought a tci streetfighter 3000 stall converter for that. starting to think that a non posi trac rear end wont cut it.. |

Re: 54 GMC 5 window, s10 frame, 5.3 turbo
well finished a few things today.. cut to length and welded my bars up for my 4-link... notched out my upper crossmember and welded a 5" pipe in so my driveline will clear when laid out.. then spent a few hours with the good ol' photo shop finishing up my shop logo for the door... turned out pretty awesome if i dont say so myself!
ended up scoring a good deal on 3.902 bore -22.4cc dish probe forged pistons, eagle 2.5 forged rods, and eagle forged 4.000 stroker crank... all this will put this baby up to 6.3 liters and my compression ratio around stock 9.5 ish with my heads... 75lb bosch injectors with keene bell boost a pump also on the way... dammit gunna need a bigger turbo!! this motor has gotten so ridiculous im not even sure what hp im shooting for anymore.. seen stock setups with aggressive cams making 600 na... boosted goes all the way from 800 to 1000.. im thinking im shooting for 650 to 700 depending on what my turbo will let me. still waiting on the right rear end.. finally found one, in the same city as me, right gears, 8.5 and a posi with disk brakes but of course hes the one guy in the world that thinks his **** is gold... 800 bucks my ass.. couldnt talk him down a bit.. found another with 4.56 gears, 8.2 with a mini spool but im trying to keep this thing from turning into a full out drag truck! |

great looking project! What air intake is that in post #5 on the first page? with the fridge in the background. Is that just a filter clamped onto the throttle body or is that a complete set up with a MAF sensor behind it?

got a ton of time on my hands now that my job was eliminated so i plan on among my other hundred projects really amping it up on this truck.. ill keep lingenfelter in mind for my cam, gunna research who knows there **** about custom grinds for turbos... ended up ditching the idea of a big single and now going to use the twin 62's one on each bank.. my hp number has gone up quite a bit, after talking with a guy up in canada with the same setup and twin 76's puttin 1200 to the wheels with just 15lbs.. obviously my turbos will have to push more boost then that to make those numbers but im shooting for bout 800 at wheels now.. pistons were backordered for ever, just recently got them and am now getting my motor finished up.. once i get that ill be in full force again.. i didnt realize the 67-69 rears were only 1/2 wider... i plan on running white wall slicks in the back so i almost need it narrower but ill defineatley keep that in mind in my search... im really leanin towards ford 8.8, but my bud said the offset on his looked like it was way way off.. |

Re: 54 GMC 5 window, s10 frame, 5.3 turbo
Try Lingenfelter for your cam, I'm sure they will have a take out with litters etc.
You asked about a rr end. I found that a 67-69 Chevy truck either 2 or 4x is only 1/2 wider than a stock AD and they can be had with 3:73 and posit that should work well with the 4l60 you are running. Sweet build...subscribed. |

Re: 54 GMC 5 window, s10 frame, 5.3 turbo
Sorry guys been a long time since i updated, ever since the motor decided to go fully outrageous my budget and time for the build really changed on me. the motor is finally together and mocked up between the frame rails as of last week.. heres the details on the build and a couple pics.
Eagle Forged 4.0" stroker crank, 6.2" forged h-beam rods, and ARP 2000 rodbolts Probe -22cc forged pistons ARP main and head studs Rollmaster double roller timing set Comp cams custom grind 230/234 608/612 114 lsa Comp cams rocker arm trunion upgrade Morrel link bar hydraulic roller lifters and high volume oil pump LS2 243 heads milled .02 with patriot dual .650 lift valve springs and titanium retainers Ls9 7 layer headgaskets Fast LSXRT 102 intake Compression should sit at boost friendly 9.5:1 topped with twin 67's, intercooled and meth injected im aiming for 800 rwhp since i updated last ive gone thru a few rear ends, finally settled on a full disk brake 9" out of a lincoln versailles, got it apart and upgrading to a detroit locker and 31 spline moser axles. In the rest of my downtime been building hotrod furniture and misc other stuff including my new welding setup and my new welding cart out of an old wagon Also scored a complete dash setup out of a 54 desoto powermaster sedan, lady was scrappin everything couldnt let it go to waste so i cut it down and modified it to fit the 54, started building pods for my air gauges in the center so it matches.. a little ways off but it will defineately be different Attachment 1152522 also started on cleaning the frame up and boxing it, almost ready for paint, was gunna do por15, any better recommendations? |

Also a little teaser on another one of my scores, at work and seen this little gem hiding in a field. Knew it matched way too well and couldnt pass it up went and asked about it after work, 100 bucks and she came home with me.. plans are to bag the camper as well and tow it too the drag races next summer
Heres another of the pods we built in my dash And heres on of the truck sitting on blackwalls before i started into the frame again and one more of the cart |
