I've changed my own oil for 30 yrs, but today I had my first quicky lube experience, hope I don't get throwin off the board for admitting that, but it was really cold today lol. the only places that except used oil now is the oil change places, and I'd feel quilty asking to dump the oil there, when I didn't buy it there, I figure it cost like 25 bucks for oil&filter, and the lube place is like 31 bucks with free car wash, do you blame me?

At those prices I don't blame you but I can still do a change for under $10.

Oh course I change my own oil. I wouldn't trust some high school drop out that's probably on drugs touch my trucks.

I worked as an auto mech for a while, and we had an old man with a 2 year old Caddy come in with his motor knocking. He said he went to Jiffy Lube, and they didn't put the oil filter on tight enough. By the time he got home all the oil was gone. The Jiffy Lube refused to take responsibility for their F'-up.

Yep change my own oil also. Have heard too many horror stories of quick lube places screwing it up. That and I'm too cheap to pay that much to have it done.

I do my own. I used to take it to "jiffy lube" once in a while, but they always seem to "forget" something, like replacing my oil plug

Or they'll use a screwdriver to open and check my brake fluid, gouged the crap outta the top !!!

I know what you mean, this is an older guy, and I watched him real close believe me, but I just couldn't justify doing my own in this freezing weather for 6 bucks differance, I might of waited till the weather warmed up, but it was due and tomorrow I have to travel a couple hours a day fortwo weeks for work, sounds like I'm trying to justify it doesn't it? damn I knew I shouldn't of admitted it, lol

No not the point at all, if I lived up north where the temps are not even getting above freezing, I would have to pay someone to do it while I stayed warm in the waiting room, lol, I'm a real wimp when it comes to cold weather

I change my own. Costs like $13 for five quarts of Valvoline and a Wix filter. Not too bed for 20 minutes of work to save $10

i have always changed my own oil except for my company cars those went to the jiffy lube. ive also taught my son to change oil among other things and most of the time now i just tell him what truck what oil and what filter to throw on it while i watch the game and if its cold out oh well i dont feel the cold from the sofa!

Nothing wrong with paying for an oil change.....you keep me in business.

BTW, the average oil change in my area is around $20 US, which is the same that you're paying.

Sometimes we run coupons for $14.90.

The O'Reilly Auto parts store near me takes used oil/trans fluid/gear oil (no charge). Might be something to check out.

I change all my own oil, fuel filters and such. I just kinda like doing it. I get to spend some quality time with my trucks. But there is nothing wrong with paying someone else to do it, as long as they have a good reputation and you get to watch them/check it out after their done.

When I was in high school, I worked part time in a service station, and did a lot of oil changes, among other things. Been doing them myself since - about 38 years. Having a recycle place that takes oil and filters helps. Don't blame you for paying to have it done in nasty weather, though. I only have a carport and if it's too cold/wet, I put it off a week or so!

I do the Quik Lube oil changes with either my Dads or Grandpa's car...just because It's a ***** to get under it to change etc, etc. As you all know (from my Sig) I have a K10 I don't even need ramps to get under that thing...makes life easy so I'm more motivated to do it my own oil changes with it and glad I can...

my grandma got a shop to do her last oil change, they forgot to put the cap back on the valve cover and she lost all the oil out the top, covered her motor and the underside of her hood, all they did was say they were sorry, didnt give her a new cap, powerwash her motor or anything. just an example of taking advantage of old people

I do both...Most of time I do my own, but I'll sometimes ttake mine to a local Quick lube (Not a chain outlet). So far they haven't messed anything up. My wife's gets free oilk changes from the dealer for life, so I don't touch it!

I have the Toyota dealer change the oil and lube my 2002 Toyota 4x4 Ext cab truck ( yes I know its not a chevy or GM but I gotta drive something that gets more than 10 MPG) but trust someone else to change oil in my chevys I say Hell No.

actually how I even got onto the lube place was I did my sons integra and with out a hoist you can barely get the filter off, it was a b!tch to do, so i sent him to quicky lube, and try to change the filter on a 98 4runner, ya my daughter is going there too, I couldn't even get the filter wrench on it, why don't they put those filters in a accessible spot

I was changing my oil on thanksgiving drop oil and filter put on new filter filled with oil and let truck down on hoist and answered phone,big mistake ran with a friend to pick up my dozer gonna finish when back and during meantime son decided to plow driverway and instead of using tractor decided to use truck and you know the rest of story.Pulled engine today and installing used 350.Lesson learned finish job first.Sad but life goes on won't make that mistake again.

I do all the oil changes here. My wife has a 02 Passat...what a *****!! There is a plastic tray underneath that has to come out first. Takes as long to screw with that as to change the oil once it's off. She took it to the VW dealer last time, and they charged her $35.00. Soooo I did it again on Thanksgiving Day. Course there is a charge here too

I change the oil in my Pete also. 9 gallons! The filter holds one alone. I put all the fluids in a 265 gallon barrel, and then give it to my summer employer, who burns it in a waste oil heater. No cost, just some time donated. It's the filters that are really piling up. No one will take a Cat filter as a passenger car! I need to make a hydraulic crusher to squeeze all the oil out and then put them in the trash.

A good reason to do it yourself....

The filter holds almost a quart of oil. Fill the filter up before you install it so your engine doesn't have to run dry for a few seconds when you first start it up.

No jiffy quick place going to do that for you!

i've always done my own ... i usually change mine right before winter wether it needs it or not ... so i can get throught he winter without needing one again ... but my 350 drink alittle oil so i check it every week just to be safe.... i believe all those oil change places should be used by people who 1. aren't physically capapble of changing there own oil and 2. people who don't even know or care about there vehicles...
It so much cheaper to do it your self .... im amazed that those places are still in business
