Gonna put 5.3 in my S10
I'm picking up the parts I need to put a 2004 5.3 in my 92 S10,my 327 had some problems and it's time to update.
I bought a 2004 5.3 from a Tahoe with computer and all accesories with 90,000 miles for $600.00. I bought a set of Fbody exhaust manifolds instead of headers. I'm buying a aftermarket underdash AC unit from Yogi's to put in at the same time I install my motor. I'm going to use this thread as my build thread so if you have any ?'s or suggestions please let me know. For the next few weeks it will be slow but once I get everything together I'll hump to put her back on the road. |

Re: Gonna put 5.3 in my S10
curious to see how the exhaust manis work, i have been considering a 4.8 or 5.3 in my 91 sonoma instead of the traditional small block swap route. i'm sold on the gen3 engines, i put a 5.3 in my 95 impala SS and it puts the LT1 to shame.

Re: Gonna put 5.3 in my S10
You can use older A/C lines by modifying a bracket. This setup is the least expensive to setup.
http://www.maliburacing.com/forum/vi...hp?=34&t=79059 You can buy an aftermarket bracket. http://www.kwikperf.com/lsx_ac.html |

Re: Gonna put 5.3 in my S10
http://www.currentperformance.com/index.html has alot of swap parts also but they are pricey. I am leaning towards using a harness from them.

Thanks, I used Sanderson shortie headers and Heartthrob V8 S-10 exhaust. I just cut the collectors off and welded on some new ones that matched the Sandersons. http://www.heartthrobexhaust.com/hea...cessories.html I am actually buying my S10 back this Spring. Should be fun, can't wait to drive it again.

Re: Gonna put 5.3 in my S10
Save money for it!! I would like to put a 5.3 in my Jimmy. I like the power of the 4.3 but the 5.3 would be awsome. Same great milage or better with minor programming. At least for 96 and later, the swap is easier. The original PCM is kept in place for basic functions like the instrument cluster. The 5.3 PCM is added for only engine functions. A custom harness makes the swap easier. Here is a conversion: http://www.hotrodlane.cc/PDFFILES/Lisa%20Tahoe.pdf

Re: Gonna put 5.3 in my S10
Update, sorry my father in law had some medical problems and I've spent a lot of my time running my Mother in law back and forth to the hospital. He's doing better and back home,I don't regret helping them as I feel blessed for having them!!!
I went and picked up my 5.3 today-WHAT A CLUSTER XXXX I got to the yard at 8 am and finally hit the road at 3 pm. They sold the 5.3 I wanted but I bought a 2004 with 81,000 miles. As they were pulling it I noticed the manifold was cracked and the Main harness had been cut in too. They found another truck witha good harness so we took it out but it was a cable throttle and I have DBW. I grabbed the computer for both trucks and a extra intake cover . I got back to my truck and and they had put a intake in the bed for me. My motor has a single fuel line rails the intake they gave me has dual fuel line rails!! I may try to sell the DBW pedal and computer wit the cut harness and throttle cheap.I will try to take pictures wed. when we take it out of my Dodge. So bottem line I got motor 2 computers, 1 good harness 1 messed up one and pedal assembly for DBW =$800.00 and 1 LOST DAY |

Re: Gonna put 5.3 in my S10
We found out the camaro manifolds wouldn't clear the aarms on passenger side, also looked like the drivers side was going to be tough without changing a lot of steering parts.
I bought a set of patriot headers from the Car Shop in Moline,Ill. shipped to me at $275.00 they look a lot better. We're hoping to pull the motor the last time thursday, hopefully by next week I can put frontend back on! |

Re: Gonna put 5.3 in my S10
I can fIx the harness they cut into, I have a bunch of harness ends and know the harnesses inside and out, Even if they cut it in half.. I can also modify the harness to stand alone for you if you need, and add in a fuse box with the necessary fuses and relays you're going to need a lot cheaper than you can buy a harness from summit or painless. I am doing a swap on my 83 S-10, doing a 6.0 from an 03 Escalade only because it's an h.o. Motor 03-04. And a 4L60e trans.. Pretty simple swap, (ive done about 8 or 9 of these LS swaps in different old cars) i have not gotten to the part about the heater box yet, and ive got an a/c truck so im in for it looks like! Lemme know if I can help at all.

Re: Gonna put 5.3 in my S10
What kind of compressor did you use? Because the Delphi compressors are much more compact than the other type (I think delco) the way you can tell the difference is that the Delphi has 2 separate lines, bolted on separately the other kind had one big bulky block that have two lines that bolt on together with one bolt. I always use the Delphi type, I just know he other is bigger and bulkier. Just thought I would let you know that.

Re: Gonna put 5.3 in my S10
Sburch5887,thanks for the offer! I have a cable intake and throttle with harness now. The harness they cut in too was for a DBW, I have the intake and throttle for taht also plus pedal and computer.
My buddy thats helping me is modifing the harness for a standalone system. I have a 700r4 so I hope every thing works when it's done. I'm hoping I can put air in it this winter as it didn't work out for me during install. I think I'm going to buy the Alan Grove brackets so I can use a Sanden compressor. |

Re: Gonna put 5.3 in my S10
A lot of LS swaper's do the cable setup and it seems to workout ok for them I just like the DBW setup, it's really the way to go for me.. Its only a matter of modifying & mounting the pedal which can be a pain sometimes depending on the car I'm working on. But what I also like about it is that the cruise is only a matter of hooking up a few wires vs. Running an extra box & cable. So on your a/c, you weren't able to use the delphi air compressor that mounts on the bottom right side of the block? I was hoping to be able to with mine, I have been able to use that on all my swaps so far except for a 78 Corvette because of the frame, so we had to go aftermarket.

Re: Gonna put 5.3 in my S10
Hey if that cut up DBW harness is for sale I'll take it off your hands with or without the pedal, tac module & throttle body, just gimmie a price with or without plus shipping to 30263, I'll use it on one of my next swaps. And by the way, did you know the only difference in intakes are the egr holes & not weather its cable or DBW tb? I always use either a non-egr truck intake or do a Corvette style intake, which involves modifying the accessory brackets, but we figured out a way to run a Vette intake without going to Vette accessories, we use all the stock truck accessories.
