Cigarette lighter ?????
Somehow, somewhere along the way, Someone, (prolly the guys that installed my a/c) Disconnected my cigarette lighter wire, and I dont know WHAT they did with it but its no where to be found. My question. How does it hook up?? Is there a certain wire I need to buy with a fitting on the end that plugs in? or do I just insert any kind of wire into the back of the lighter?? and where should I run this wire to, to get power from. I know this is a piddly thing, but I need to use it for my cell phone on my trip to Tx in a week. Would really suck to be broke down and have the cell battery dead on top of it,,,

Should be an orange wire in the 14-12 guage range that goes directly to the fuse panel.

just run a fused wire from the fuse panel to the lighter. At the end of the wire, you will need to crimp on a female spade connector to plug it in. Wire is constant hot, unless you really want it to have power only when the ignition is on, your choice.

Mine is a large (10 gauge?) red wire from a lug marked "CIG" on the left side of the fuse block, just above the A/C fuse. I assume it must be fused somewhere but I don't see it on the fuse block. If you are running a new wire, you may want to add an inline fuse - I would guess 30a ought to be about right.

I'm an idiot...
![]() The factory wire didn't have a spade connector at the end, but the female end to a round connector (I can't think of the name of the type). I was thinking of mine, there is a spot to connect the housing so that you can ground it, that was the connector that I was thinking of. Your best bet would be to climb under there and see what style it is, then you are sure of the right one to use/buy.

In my '72 P/U, the wire to the lighter is what powers the High-Speed fan. So, if your fan works on high, you might trace down that wire to see if the connection for the lighter is still "in-line". Mine was disconnected at the fuse block and had a plug on the end of the wire to plug in to the fuse block.
Good Luck, Terry |

new lighter came with 2 wires
I bought a brand new cig lighter (I just want EVERYthing working)
The new lighter has a blue wire attached to it, but it also had a red wire (not attached to the lighter) male plug on one end and spade on the other. Can I just connect the new blue wire where the old lighter was attached? and SECOND what is this red wire for?? [This new lighter appears to have a light attached to it] Thanks!!!!!! ![]()

No, mine just came in a nice box with no instructions. The blue wire was already attached to the lighther and the red wire was twisty wrapped to blue wire not attached to anything. Looks like I will be standing on my head some more!

the red wire should go right into the cigarette light. you have to crimp an end on the other end
