Re: My 64 copperhead

Welcome....Great looking truck. For those of us doing big block conversions....what frame mods did you do and what headers/exhaust did you run? I see you did some firewall work also.

cut the firewall and set it back 4 inch as for the frame notched the crossmember for exhaust.headers are for a 67-72 c10 hookers jet hot coated. custom motor mounts and trans crossmember. running a Ron Davis radiator.

Firewall doesn't look easy but looking at the truck was well worth it, perfect stance with my favorite engine, a Big block. We may need more pic's though, got us hooked now.

OK, I see it now.
I had one of those L88 hoods. I traded it for a factory 63-66 GMC hood that I liked better on my truck.
Like your truck dude.

Re: My 64 copperhead

Why was it necessary to set the firewall back?
Was it clearance issues or were you only trying to improve balance in the truck?
I have a big block mocked up on a cab and chassis and it seems to fit fine..
But it is looking a little nose heavy.
Any words of advice?

Re: My 64 copperhead

The reason was so i could put the bbc where the sbc goes .also really just widen it for the ablity to take the valve covers off and more access to the back of the engine. was able to use headers for 67-72 bbc hooker. hope this helped.p.s.first firewall was not to pretty so redid it second one is the way to go .use 16 ga, cold rolled. i.e painted one

OK,
I have the motor mount frame brackets from a 72 GMC that was originally a big block truck.
The brackets and cross member are being used in a 65 build.
(I am also using the 72 frame)
The brackets are different than small block brackets I have here as I compared them side by side.
They allow the motor to sit lower and back.
I had it all mocked up and didn't notice any clearance issues before taking it apart again.
I will check clearance again once I get the cab back on the frame but I really like how your firewall came out so if things are too tight I may just copy your design.
