A Long Time Coming: Shoulder Harness found in my town junkyard
I just got back with one of the best deals I have found in a long time. Out of all the yards and trucks I have looked at over these past 10 years, I found a set of Shoulder Harnesses today in my hometown junkyard of all places. I am so happy to have found these because I have been looking for a set for years. The only thing I wish that could of been better, would that they would have been blue, but I am sure I will dye these covers atleast to match my belts. Sorry about the rant, I am just in a very good mood today now. Trevor

Re: A Long Time Coming: Shoulder Harness found in my town junkyard
Please don't take this the wrong way!
I'd be real leery of junkyard seat belts. Realistically speaking, seat belts/shoulder harnesses are only good for 1 hard crash. They can be stretched and weakened with no visible signs of damage. Personally, I'd buy new, or have them rewebbed. I'd just hate to hear of somebody getting killed, or worse, because of a belt failure. Just my .02.

Re: A Long Time Coming: Shoulder Harness found in my town junkyard
The belts came from a 1971 Suburban ambulance. We still need to go back and get the rest of the belts out of the vehicle but they were closing tonight.
El Jay, I understand where you are coming from. I have used several junkyard seat belts before with no problems. My truck had blue interior anyway, so I will probably restore some blue belts to put in these. The ambulance though, was not wrecked, just out of commission, that's how I pretty much see all the trucks in yards around here though. They haven't been in a wreck, but just needed to get out of someone's yard.

If that is true, what political office do you hold? Or are you a lawyer?

Re: A Long Time Coming: Shoulder Harness found in my town junkyard
For me; lying in a bed forever with a body that doesn't work but a brain that is still active as all get out........or using a soda straw to maneuver my powered wheelchair around.
But, then, that's just me.

Re: A Long Time Coming: Shoulder Harness found in my town junkyard
Funny how everybody worries about the safety factor with used seat belts, and nobody says anything about the diminished safety that comes from converting a van tilt column...great score Trevor!!

Re: A Long Time Coming: Shoulder Harness found in my town junkyard
Or using an integrated belt seat from a newer truck in a 67-72 with a floor that was never intended to handle seat belt loads from that kind of seat. I'd be way less worried about the bone yard belts.

Re: A Long Time Coming: Shoulder Harness found in my town junkyard
Well, I took the plunge and dyed my belt covers to match my interior. Came out very very nice. Cleaned and scrubbed them very well before using some ppg Medium Blue Poly in my airbrush. Let me know what you guys think. Trevor
