Weird factory options??????

Ok, i will start it off. Just curious as to what other people have actually found over the years themselves.
Number 1 i found yesterday. A lighted cigar lighter.
Number 2. How about a speedwarning with out a gauge package? It is the real deal with the correct stud through the tin also.
And number 3. An am/fm from a tilt cab truck...
Lets see what you have found...

Re: Weird factory options??????

that radio looks like the ones used in the corvettes, i believe they mounted them vertical for a while. that cluster is a real odd ball. i am curious to see what else comes up.

Re: Weird factory options??????

Have seen the lighter light before, and I agree the radio looks like a corvette piece that has been used in the truck as a replacement.

Re: Weird factory options??????

That overdrive is cool, first time I have ever seen that.

Eric says he got the radio from an old tilt cab truck. I am pretty sure the tilt cabs used the vertical radio.

Saw a similar setup in a 60-66 model last fall.

Re: Weird factory options??????

I'm not sure how wierd this is but my 1/2 ton GMC has a Factory "K31 - Manual Throttle". I am not sure what this would have been used for on a 1/2 ton. Perhaps as a cruise control?

Re: Weird factory options??????

I didn't actually pull the am/fm from a tilt cab, but have seen similar am radios in other tilt cabs. I thought the corvette was a different style, but maybe not. Maybe someone can verify what it is? Still the only one like this i recall.
The overdrive is another good one.
The manual throttle is also a good one. I have seen a fair amount of those on blazers, and on camper trucks.

The original idea behind the manual throttle was for use with a PTO for a dump bed, winch, etc. It is definitely strange to see it on a 1/2 ton; however, I have seen it before.

A friend with a 1951 International KB-5 had a factory manual throttle on his truck. He said it was there so a farmer could put the truck in low gear, bailing wire the steering wheel to hold straight, and throttle the truck to creep while he walked next to it throwing square hay bales on it and a trailer.

"Already Gone" Pink truck is pretty rare!

Also "ORIGINAL" SWB/Fleetside wood beds are unusual.

Nice Topic!

I can see that working on a manual transmission with a granny low. On an automatic like mine I don't see that working so well.
Thanks

We got ours from a trailer place in the early '70s. They looked stock.

What's the RPO code for the bailing wire option?

AFAIK, the manual throttle was for engine driven accessories. Sometimes it would be a hydraulic pump for a winch, snow plow, etc. (which are reasonable options for a 1/2 ton). Or an extra (or larger) alternator for extra electrical accessories (like for a camper), and I've even seen an engine driven water pump type accessory for farm/irrigation use. I've seen all kinds of accessories bolted up to engines that would need a fixed RPM to run them. So I think the factory provided that manual control for those types of accessories. I think it's a neat option.

I had front posi in a`71 Blazer.My`72 K/20 Highlander is the only one I`ve seen and it was a Custom Camper, too.I had a`69 K/10 Custom Camper which is the only one I`ve ever seen. That was back in`81 or`82.It had the wide wheels from factory and other nice options such as`69-only maroon w/red interior, silver pinstripe, wood bed, manual throttle,CST bucket seat, and a Ramsey winch.
How about the rear-mounted auxilary gas tank in`70?

The dual rear wheel conversion on a 3/4 ton short body is a little unusual.

Tim, any pics or more info on the 69 K-10? Sounds like that is a cool truck...
Hugger6933 just remember, you will have to change the speedwarning stud to yor new tin,and i am not sure how easy that is.

Re: Weird factory options??????

Slomotion has a rare one.It came with the factory dual wheel flatbed, too.

I had that`69 back before I took pictures of my stuff as a habit.I`ve had a few like that, like the only Suburban I had.I sold that hing to get a K/20 because 1/2ton longbeds weren`t my cup of tea.I know...dumb now/didn`t know what I had back then.I knew it was nice and I never saw a lot of the stuff that it had on others.I just figired there were plenty more where that came from.I sold it in`82.
