71 garage find stored since 73

this truck is solid 0 body rot and as of now 90% original plus it has 7,xxx orig miles yes that is right and i have all documents for verification. this will make a excellent truck when cleaned up and running. i have a 72 402 truck that i am thinking about using the motor ,trans, tach and tilt out of for this but age and lack of time anymore are against me but you never know. i will try to unstick the orig 350 sometime this week and go from there

it would be even better if i can get the motor unstuck from sitting all them years. that is why i am thinking about the 402/400 combo transplant.

I'm not really questioning the validity, but curious why anyone would want to swap out a new intake and plug wires. Did the PO die of a brain tumor?
And who really in their right mind lets a new truck sit around for that long without care/and or caring to pass it on to another family member or sell it.

just saying

yes it looks bad under the hood the air cleaner was rusted almost in 2 parts from sitting all those years with a leaking roof and the hood open. the building was ready to fall down on it.

Re: 71 garage find stored since 73

lookin at that motor theere doesn't seem to b a whole lot original there
a 7000 mile original i'd expect to see the original clamps hoses manifolds sparkplug wires etc

this has all original clamps and hoses that have the gm stamping on them except the fuel line that was replaced by them when they changed the carb to try and get it running before they found it was locked up

Re: 71 garage find stored since 73

Looks like one section of fuel line was replaced but I see the original clamps on the rad hose...

intake was disclosed to have been replaced in 73 and plug wires could have been done at the same time obviously...

I find it funny/annoying that everyone immediately bashes and tries to disprove any truck that's posted claiming low mileage.

It's happened with ALL of them no matter how well documented...the 70 mile ebay truck, the reggie jackson truck, and others....

This brake pedal looks like new (No wear) in the pictures (deep grooves) and the seat has age cracks but no wear on the driver's side....those two things in addition to the lack of registration since 73, the odometer (which looks straight not wonky like a reset one) and the word of the family seem to add up. But in all honesty, that's not for me to decide yea or nay....

AGREED- I have a 40,XXX original car that USUALLY garaged, but spent it's life On Long Island NY so it's FAR from mint.
I also have a 1990 35K Dodge cummins truck that no paint at all left on it.

Yes there are 100,000 mile trucks cleaner than yours, but it's no matter. Get around this long enough and see or hear about all the restamps and clones. Thre is a lawyer in my area that advertises for helping you with your fraud case and the funny thing is I know he owned a 70 Nova car of mine that WAS a fraud!
MAKE IT WHAT YOU WANT- AND ENJOY IT- Good luck and GREAT FIND!

No matter if it is or isn't the real deal, you did good on that one. You can see the cheyenne emblem and lower chrome have nice color yet like a truck that hasn't seen the sun for awhile. I like the cheyenne package with a 3 on the tree!

Re: 71 garage find stored since 73

not bashing... but that dash should be mint among other things..
sorry I think you might need to step back and take an unbiased look..
late 70's cb and trailor brake controller..
thr 80's style snap on bed cover.. the engines general shape.. the accell colored dissy cap.. was filco that color back then can't remember..
coil/ oil fill tube the as brackets.. inless it was raining at 90* in that barn it shouldn't be that bad.. for 7k unless it was dipped in the ocean..
the dash I could see if it was a work truck but the add ons say different..
brake booster and leaking master..
hope you're right,, but I've see better looking engine compartments in 100k cars that lived at the ocean front there whole lives..
just mecause it wasn't reg since 73 means nada..
I bought a 86 monty SS that was never titled but had 86k on it.. so..
no ones bashing.. but I think you're p/o facts are um not totally true..

free up the engine with a little atf and marvels my oil mix..
good luck with it..

there is not one thing leaking on the truck i sprayed pb blaster over everything under the hood. and the dash pad is mint . some of the scratches i put there taking some fenders and a tailgate out from inside. but this guy used the truck to pull his a gas dragster to the track. the cb has a sticker on it that says it was serviced in 72 and the bed cover is hard and dry rotted

i do not know what to believe yet but i will find out today when i get a ohio title for it then whatever miles is on that title will be what the truck has no matter what shape it is in but i can tell you i doubt you will find many more with 0 body rot that have not been touched. i feel i got a very good deal for $2,000

Re: 71 garage find stored since 73

whether it is real or not, I think it is, I see know reason for the family to make up the claims that so easily could be debunked by someone determined to find the truth. I think it is a FANTASTIC!! find that many if not all of us would be proud to have in our shop. I am happy for you sir to find this truck , hope you enjoy it and make it what you want it to be.

I will take a shot at your issues.

The snap on bed cover is not the 1980's, my fathers 53 Chevy P/U had one when he bought it in the 1970's. Well the truck is a 1971 and was parked in 1973, so a CB and trailer brake controller would be period correct (maybe a bit early but not out of the question). Cap and wires, someone tried to make it run and after almost 40 years being parking the wires will have rotted. It was noted that the carb, intake, spark plug wires, and dist cap were change by both the original owner and the next person that tried to make it run. I have seen stuff in dry California that is that rusty after sitting in a enclosed area for less than 40 years, so the amount of rust after sitting in a moist enviroment proves nothing. Agreed I have seen cars with well over 100k miles that looked better, but that proves nothing, miles do not equal rust.

To someone else that has an issue with the interior dash paint being scratched.....it has been parked for 38 year....think someone maybe had used the inside of the truck to store stuff and scratched the paint pulling stuf in and out of the cab? Vehicles get scratched when parked too.

I believe it is very possible what the OP put out as the truth. Anyway it is a hell of a deal at 2k.

Re: 71 garage find stored since 73

Well, since it's not my truck and I have no stake in it....I'm pretty unbiased

Dash looks just to be dirty/dusty like it was in a shed for 48 years.....I guess we'll see how it looks cleaned up...dash pad looks mint (No cracking or sun warping so that leads me to also expect lower mileage)

Have you seen woodgrain that looked that good after 40 yrs/high mileage? No dings on the trim, grille looks clean (no dings)

Yes, it COULD be that the P/O's of the truck lied....but it also COULD be that it is a true low mileage truck...

The point I was trying to nicely make is that the original poster didn't ask if anyone thought it was a true low mileage truck...he stated it....

look at the paint on the dash... pass side. thats not dust thats scratched to hell paint.. glove box door, dash, the lower dash..under the glovie door..

and you RIGHT the o/p didn't ask.. he posted a thread of a low milage used 2 years then parked truck.. I just hope he didn't pay extra for that parked in a barn low mile story..
don't matter what we think.. if he like is and is happy with the deal he got.. but when he goes to sell as an original low miles barn find.. he better delete these photo's..
