Factory cold air intake???

So I usually just pass this truck by in the junkyard because its picked pretty clean. But I decided to check it out today and it has this weird thing bolted to the firewall. It looks almost like the intake setup 68 z28 camaros use... Glovebox door is gone soooo. Just wondering if anyone knows what this could be?

Sure can. Do you want the filter holder/support bracket on the core support too?

Imagine that ! Now I'm thinking , Hmm , I could clean that thing up and turn it into a custom cold air intake with a little work and a visit to the chrome shop it could end up looking pretty cool to have a closed chromed cold air intake plumbed to a set of tri power carbs on a 292 l6 with a custom air cleaner ! With it wrapping around a chromed 9inch power brake booster . It would definitely get some looks at the local choke and puke car shows 😁

All I want is the cowl intake , the rusty housing , I should probably ask you . To price it before I get to carried away with this idea ? I want it pending price ?

I'm pretty sure they will give it to me for free. I'm in there so often they give me small stuff like that for nothing. If its free from them and doesn't cost a stupid amount to ship don't even worry about it. I'll try and stop in there today if I have time, if not it will be monday.

I know it's a long shot but any chance that truck is still there and not crushed yet? I have located a complete set up but it's missing the bracket mounted to the fender and rad support pictured here. If it's still there I would be interested in purchasing it from you if you pick it up next time your there.

Re: Factory cold air intake???

I saw those back in the '70s on farm trucks, working in a truck and tractor repair shop. The filter would have a "fan blade" on it like tractor filters to swirl the dust out.

As for actually being a "cold air intake", Buick had that option on the '68 GS.
First pic is of the Buick version.
Second pic is a repro made by a guy at V8uick.com.

On a Skylark it was good for .10-.15 Second and a couple miles an hour in the 1/4.

Re: Factory cold air intake???

It looks a little different now , After smoothing the firewall there's plenty of room to mount it on the passenger side .

The red thing was another cars glovebox door i think. I threw it out into the car next to it. I dont know what is above the horn either. I got a pic of it just in case it had something to do with the fire wall thingy

It's a snorkel kit found only on the super rare long bed submersible C-10 L6 ! Used by the CIA on recognizance during the Cuban missile crisis ! All those trucks were shipped to Northern California to monitor Mendicino county growers in the middle 70's Wow super rare ! Wanna buy a bridge ?

Triple groove balancer or add on Pulley. You need to snag that.
