Its what the tank straps bolted to. It was also a finger smasher when you got your finger behind the seat with someone moving the seat back.....ouch!

I remember discovering that...and the very next day, my son discovered it too.

I was talking a nap in my truck today thinking about this quest for more space without a total major cab rebuild... and I think ebfabman is the man to talk to on this... have you thought of moving the floor forward a bit? I was looking at the floor, where the flooe is joined to the toe board I guess...what ever you call it, the 54ish degree angle upwards. Has anyone considered making the floor a bit further out, and modding it this direction? I'm thinking it could be done pretty easy and not have any major draw backs. Brake pedal placement may be an issue, but the throttle would be pretty easy, esp in a 71/72 style throttle.

Ever considered this... is it a decent idea... or was I breathing too much POR15 fumes today?

Absolutely. I never like the idea of sitting next to a tank full of smelly explosive fuel. The extra room is a big plus.

To avoid the flopping potential you mentioned, why can't you use a slightly larger section of tubing and not only weld it to the lip for a nice finished look, but also tac it to the rear wall as a rigid brace running side-to-side?

Incoma....all my modifications are usually unseen unless you know where to look for them!!!! Just like this mod, unless you know it was there, you might never miss it!!! Also Incoma....we just bought a powder-coater. Look out brackets, wheels, braces, pulleys, etc.... Everything is on the chopping block (make that "Coating" block!)

I find it ironic that Putter questions if modifications should be done. That guy only has 10% of his original truck left. Everything else is modified! ...and he questions this...

I think he was just asking if it is a structural support area. It isn't but it does provide some support so the rear cab panel doesn't flop around, which could be addressed with a few braces if it is ever a problem.

I want to put some type of brace there anyways. I want to cut the roof off, but still have a small flat area to mount the removable hardtop back on. Earl, you really need to stop. I now how have 10 years of ideas, a 50cf cylinder of argon, and the skills of an 8 year old. This is gettin bad.

Edmond is beautiful, thought I'd rather be in Western NC. My wife and I have only been here for 3 maybe 4 months now, and we like it alot. Weather's nice, and people are awesome. Now I just have to meet some of the local 67-72chevytruck board members and everything will be perfect.
