Revolving cup holder pics

A few people on the parts forum asked where I got these and I couldn't remember (I got them a few years ago) but I just found a match on ebay. This apparently came from a 95-98' Windstar but I don't ever remember being in of those vans. If you remove the ashtray this fits right in the opening perfectly. You will need to secure it with screws which shouldn't be too hard if the heater controls are moved out of the way. Here are a few pics without it being painted to match the dash. I've decided to keep looking for something different. Here are a few pics of this relatively easy mod!

Clever! Since my ashtray is filled with hardened gum, I may have to do that little trick.

Re: Revolving cup holder pics

Now I am thinking....If I were to take the ashtray front and trim the center to accept this cup holder, then mold the two together so it would be as flush and invisible as possible and paint it to match.....it would look REALLY good. (Not saying the way you have it doesn't, but you can almost camoflage it into the original ashtray front.)

I'd like to see what could be done...but for now I'll stick with putting my Jumbo Soft Drinks between my legs while I drive and keep freezing the "boys", I hear it's good for 'em anyway...

I like the way you are thinking but, with the ashtray front attached to the front of the rotating cup holder, how would it rotate?

You would have to cut out a rectangle in the face of the ashtray for the rotating part. You would probably also have to remove the ashtray part from the face and discard it because I don't think it will fit vertically otherwise. Basically you would reuse only your ashtray face, cut a rectangle out for the rotation and the perimeter would still look stock. A dremel with a cutoff wheel and a little patience should do the trick!

Your idea would work, just cover it and cut out the center.

Re: Revolving cup holder pics

Maybe even make the ashtray front flip down and have the cup holder behind it. That would be pretty stealth too. I like the cup holder...I guess it's time to watch ebay for some

You need me to PM you an address? I have to hit the junk yard on Saturday anyway to look for a part (for my dad's truck), so I will look for the correct minivan while I am there.

Putter,

If you find an extra one at the JY, could pick it up for me? I have an idea, but need to play with it first. Let me know how much I need to send you.

Will do. I didn't see any last trip out, but I have to go again to pick up a few odd items for another member, plus an A/C compressor for my dad's caravan ($399 @ parts house...$70 at JY...with warranty)

No notching of the dash would be necessary.

Exactly. We need a photoshop guru to install this into an ashtray cover.
Anyone have a good photo of an ashtray front?
Then we can post it on the photoshop board.
LUV, I will PM you my info.

Re: Revolving cup holder pics

Using the ashtray face is a good idea, but! From the pivot point of the cup holder the face plate of the ashtray will hang over not letting it rotate.A flip down Idea may be more practical just need to come up with a hidden hinge.

There was a member that hinged a radio delete to cover his radio. I don't think he is willing to give up his idea. Maybe someone else has an idea for a hinge.

Re: Revolving cup holder pics

Yep. Have it rotate out of the ashtray face INSTEAD of the black plastic surround. And then color it to match the rest of the ashtray face.
Similar to this. I wish I was a Photoshop user so I could make it look right and color it!!! But this is the basic idea.
ONLY the cup holder rotates...NOT the ashtray face. It is fixed in position.

And, 70C10, please don't think that we are not impressed with your idea and install. It is a GREAT idea and you did a fine job. After re-reading this post, it looks like we might be bordering on picking it apart. Sorry, that is not the direction we are taking...HONEST!!!

I didn't take it that way at all Putter!. It looks like you and me are are the only ones on the same page with this rotation and your photoshop is what I was trying to describe exactly. Hopefully your pic helps make it clear. You are the man dude!
