I called the above companies to get rates and they had really good rates but...A couple of things you need to know...
1) Both companies said no hauling. If I wanted to haul mulch and I had a wreck its possible the insurance would not cover my truck.
2) Running errands are not allowed and my truck canot to be used as a back up.
*If I was using my truck as a back up and had a fender bender-my insurance may not cover my trucks damage
*If I was using my truck to run errands and I had a wreck and I got into a fender bender-the insurance might not cover me.

These cconditions were on a separate form that I would have to sign... stating my truck would not be used to run errands or as a back up vehicles.
My present insurance company will insure up to $24,000 but it does not have restrictions and will cost me about $100 more a year. To me I am not willing to risk having an accident and not being covered because I ran to the parts store to pick up parts. Oh yes...I could fight it but who do you think has deeper pockets to contest a fender bender under these circumstances. Just thought I would pass this info on to you.

Most insurance company's like this have these little condiitions so you have to only say it's a show vehicle.
I pay the full amount and don't worry about it. I pick and choose when I drive mine.

Go with this company www.heacockclassic.com the only restriction is that I could only drive it 3k miles a year which for me is plentyfull since my truck is just a weekend toy and it sits weeks at a time. It is insured for 30k and it costs me $190.00 a year if I remember correctly.

im pretty sure you have EMC insurance, cause it was the same thing they stuck me with when i got my own vehicle, i have sense changed to cincinatti insurance company..but im almost possitive u have EMC

Those aren't insurance companies, those are scam artists! They have enough loopholes in their wording that they could get out of paying almost any claim. Pay the extra $100 a year for real insurance. My .02

I have Hagerty at $20K on my truck, and it's about $250-300/yr. It's not just errands, but you can't drive to work either. If I recall correctly, a policy like Hagerty or Grundy is a TRUE full value replacement for amount insured, no questions asked whereas "stated value" policies don't necessarily pay out your stated value (they will depreciate and comp your truck like a normal policy, even if you have a stated value on record).

There are some good threads here somewhere on this from those with experience filing claims. I just know that Hagerty pays with little or no hassle. Lose your truck, get a check. BUT, if I can get a better premium with less restrictions than I'm all ears.

I'm going to check out the company that Big_Al_71 mentioned. That's a smoking deal especially for Miami! We used to live there and we moved from Miami-Dade to Broward in the same month I turned 25. My regular car insurance was cut by around 30%. A couple years later we left the state and it was cut again by 30%. AHHH, the fun of South Florida.

If you guys don't mind saying, how old are you? I'm 23 and the way my truck is insured is they take the original MSRP from 67, apply depreciation to it, and that is the amount that the truck is worth according to them. Normal coverage is applied, property damage, etc.

Basically they value my truck at like 20 bucks, since it was about 1500 new in 67. I tried a classic car insurance company, but you have to have your license for at least 10 years (got mine at 16), and have an enclosed parking space (which i do not).

Oh, and I'm with USAA

It's crazy that they will insure a $60K escalade and allow someone to put unlimited miles on it, but won't insure a pickup truck for $30K AND you can only drive it 3K miles a year,

I had the same response from Hagarty and Grundy. They are great for collector cars but the are just the opposite with trucks. I only pay 219.00 per year on my 72 vette, but for the trucks the list of restrictions was endless.. the only thing I really cannot do with my vette is drive it to school (where i teach), and in the snow (which I wouldnt do anyway)... with the truck, anything that had to do with using it as a truck would be uninsurable. Very frusterating... with that said however I should take some pix of what people actually have "Collector" tags on up here in MN and I guess I can see why....

I agree about the everyday use and the miles per year. I have used Grundy on several of my trucks through the years. I hardly ever drove them after doing frame off 's on them. The first one that i insured they told me i could not have a trailer hitch on it. They also had me take pics. of the inside of bed, to see if it was being used and abused. I guess. I have had several people say that both companies pay off very well. I live in south east texas where hurricane Ike just hit a few months ago. East of me is a town called Bridge City, where they had up to 5-6 foot of storm surge come in. I know of about 20 collector cars that went under. I know, how come they left them behind. My buddy cleaned up about a dozen of them. 3-62 vettes,1-65 bb vette, 72-vette,62-ss impala 77-trans-am etc. They were all paid off, no problems. Full price and were gave the option to buy back at a really good price. Some went over the roof. My buddy had a 62 vette insured for 50000.00 and there were not any guestions asked.
These companies are made for collector-restored vehicles and pay off so good is because they hope they stay in your garages so they do not have any problems.
I will be having the same problem in the future when i finish my 72 bb swb. I plan on driving the wheels off of this one and not selling it.

Back a few years ago when we picked up our 67 chevelle SS 396 4spd car I called both those company's only to get the same restrictions plus it had to be kept in a locked garage. I then called my current Ins. company State Farm only to find I could get a stated Appraised value policy for about 30K (at the time) for only $20 a month with out limitations at all. Guess who I went with.

It seems the Collector Insurance companies are interested in insuring trailer Queens which is ok...but it eliminates all others who want to drive thier prize to other than car shows and meets. Looks like others besides myself have found companies who will insure our trucks so we can actually drive them and use them as we would like. I guess I found these restrictions a surprise.

I had a 72 insured with them about 10 years ago for stated amount of $5000 grand. Truck was awesome slightly modified stocker with nice paint job. Truck got keyed up on Halloween all the tires slashed, they SF told me to get new tires so I could move it and they would cover the tires for a percentage of tread left, which I figured was fair, and told me to get estimates for the paint. I took it to the shop that had painted it for the PO and two others, original shop that did the paint job about 1 1/2 years prior was the low bid. They told to come by the office and meet the adjuster, he would not look at the estimates and just pulled a figure out of his a$$, about 1/2 the low estimate. He told me it was an old truck and that was all they would pay, so I asked what they wouldve paid had the vandals burnt it to the ground, he said whatever it booked out at. I then said I had it insured for 5k and was being charged extra to have it that way, he basically said that did not mean crap to them.....I dropped state farm immmediately after that!

Now thats how its not suppose to be. My concern with standard insurance companies are that they see classic vehicles and such as just old vehicles and not for what they are...classics. Specialty Insurance companies insure specialty cars and trucks.

My State Farm agent is pretty good to me, he told me to get an appraisal on the truck (cost me $40 to have a local collector car guy put it on his letterhead) and give him 2 photos of the truck, front and rear 3/4 view. So for $160/year, I have FULL COVERAGE on a $22,000 value and zero driving/storage restrictions.

I also have "key off" insurance on my
<<< dragster for $35k and full coverage of my Freightliner/racing rig with a blanket policy of $225 per year. The only stipulation is a notice I received that said "No Wal-Mart camping" for the race car hauler. They said all motorhomes were getting that. Other than that - drive the wheels off of everything.

This thread also made me think to call my agent yesterday, since I am starting a body-off rehash of my truck, I asked about just fire and theft on the truck and told him i was re-building it. He gave me a 6 month "storage" policy, on my property with locked doors at 22k value for $44 for 6 months. Basically fire and theft. I didn't think that was a bad deal.

X2. I also have State Farm and I can drive whenever and wherever. Maybe it's different for me as I drive my truck daily. I have mine insured for a stated value and an apprasial to match.

I pay a bit more for full coverage and it's worth it. You never know what will happen.

I can drive it whenever, wherever, and it has collision, etc for $400/year. My State Farm agent is pretty good to me, he told me to get an appraisal on the truck (cost me $40 to have a local collector car guy put it on his letterhead) and give him 2 photos of the truck, front and rear 3/4 view. So for $160/year, I have FULL COVERAGE on a $22,000 value and zero driving/storage restrictions. I also have "key off" insurance on my <<< dragster for $35k and full coverage of my Freightliner/racing rig with a blanket policy of $225 per year. The only stipulation is a notice I received that said "No Wal-Mart camping" for the race car hauler. They said all motorhomes were getting that. Other than that - drive the wheels off of everything. This thread also made me think to call my agent yesterday, since I am starting a body-off rehash of my truck, I asked about just fire and theft on the truck and told him i was re-building it. He gave me a 6 month "storage" policy, on my property with locked doors at 22k value for $44 for 6 months. Basically fire and theft. I didn't think that was a bad deal.
