sbc with a turbo?

does anybody know how much boost a 350 sbc with a stock bottom end and 0.30 stock style pistons can handle for daily driving. this will be on a completely rebuilt engine if i do it.
thanks in advance.

Re: sbc with a turbo?

all"stock" bottom ends arn't created equal, nor r pistons, stock compression values differ too// so you asked a question with no real answer

Re: sbc with a turbo?

i have probably 90% of the parts already which is the funny thing...
had plans to do it but kinda flopped em around a bit and it just got set on the back burner

If you've read the thread on turboforums about the Orange Impala with the twin "chinese" turbos on a 396/402 platform i think it was, well i was going to basically copy that into my 55' an still might if i get the time

I have my twin turbo headers built and tons of parts for a new engine, but cash is a bit low right now so it's on the back burner as well.

Re: sbc with a turbo?

I should be in good shape next year LOL and I'm in no rush. Truck is getting a paint job, and new interior this winter.

I don't know how some people can afford all the stuff they buy.

Yeah it amazes me to, but then look at all the foreclosures and bankruptcies in our country. Lots of it was borrowed money that was eventually defaulted on. Look at all the new homes that people bought in the last 5 to 10 years that are now foreclosed and vacant. Everytime I go to a carshow or the track it makes me wonder how some of these guys afford it legitimately. Thats why I got a kick out of the link to that thread. I know you get what you pay for alot of the time especially in auto parts but its cool to hear of guys going fast with stock or 2nd hand parts. I know my 882 heads aren't the best by a long shot but they will make due until I can swing some better ones.

Just about to start a similar project. BW S475, I'm getting a set of headers made, but building everything else.

You can run as much boost as your tune allows. Too many variables to answer the question.

Re: sbc with a turbo?

i got to resize the pics when i get a chance , i am runing about 5 to 7 lbs of boost right now, my motor was pumpin out 420hp with no boost, about every 1 lbs of boost is 10% power increase, it takes alot of time to build a kit , i have about 40hrs just in the headers and another 10hr in the cross over and exhuast , then about 8 hrs on the coldside plumbing.

also do alot of research on what carb would work for you unless your efi , i am running a quick fuel blowthru 750 angular boost

Re: sbc with a turbo?

I did a quick search on E-Bay and found several twin turbo kits for SBC's that seemed like a good start. Some where kinda generic so you would have to do some custom fitting still, but all the parts are there...

Re: sbc with a turbo?

The ebay turbo kits are typically hit or miss. Not worth it in my opinion. You could get a turbo that breaks up after a few spools and the shrapnel could be running through you motor tearing it up. If you want to do a budget turbo build look at Borg Warner or Master power turbos and put a kit together on your own.

That is an odd size. If you want a ton of low end power in a small ci motor it would be ok I guess.

The Master Power Turbos and BW turbos are less the $600 brand new.

I think it's too small for a 360. You should look for a 70mm min. with probably a 1.10 or larger AR for a single turbo build (it all depends on how much power you want to make though). A turbo from a big HD pickup might be better then from a Mac. The newer dodges use holset which is a good turbo.

They've had really good luck with the knock off turbos from what I read on the turbo forums. Couple guys running junkyard motors making big power with them. There was one with a junkyard 454, making 600+ rwhp I believe
