Quick release mod for stock rear seat

I searched through 5 pages of results on rear seats and didn't see anything on this.

Has anyone devised a way to quickly remove/replace the stock rear seat. Pulling the six bolts is a little tedious. I tend to like having the seat out most of the time, but it would be nice to be able to throw it in on a whim and take the kids for a ride.

I would like to keep the factory seat and mounting, just perhaps come up with a way to make some brackets that release with grade 8 pins or something.

I have also considered that a cordless rattle gun may be the cheapest and simplest fix, but with my luck I would strip the bolts out the first time.

'71 blazer FWIW.

Re: Quick release mod for stock rear seat

I built a box out of angle iron and attached a late model seat....... all I have to do is pull up on the handle and it removes like the original third row...... I will post pics when i get a chance.... I used some bumper bolts on the front for the hinge and the hooks to clamp on...... the box bolts to the original holes so I didn't have to drill new ones....

Re: Quick release mod for stock rear seat

I used the old seat and welded a bar across the back that I bolted all the seat belts to.

Then I welded handles to the rear bolts so I could easily remove them to fold the seat forward for more storage.

Or just unbolt it (4 bolts total) and totally remove it.

It took me a minute to visualize what you are saying, but I think I got it. Your bolts must thread much more smoothly than mine. No handle would work on mine, gotta use the ratchet. Hmmm I do have a buddy with a tap and die set. Perhaps I better buy him a six pack.

Re: Quick release mod for stock rear seat

It's supposed to be a good weekend coming up, I'll try to remember to get some pics.

Yea....you might need to re-thread them with a tap.

I actually moved mine back about 8" to give me more leg room and let it fold up at a 90 degree angle so it would stay there, so I drilled new holes and welded some 1/2" stock in the new location then drilled and tapped it.

Not much storage room in the back but plenty of room for a cooler and all the necessary stuff.

I don't need it to be a truck.....I have a truck that I use for a truck ;-)

Makes perfect room for the doggie bed between the front and back seats now too.
