Project mouthful-80 c10-6.0?

Project mouthful because everyone says I bit off more than I could chew, I just think its a mouthful!
Well, here it is...Always wanted a c10 to build and I finally got one. Good friend of mine had it, blew up the motor, took the whole truck apart to do over and lost interest. Picked it up cheap, plan to rebuild and mod it!
Here is where I got it from in his garage...

This build is going to be slowwww, I work two jobs, full time student, and have a busy life all around. I hope to be done by spring, but we all know how that goes. Ill update it when I can, and Ill be asking a lot of questions, never done ANYTHING like this, but my dad has and he'll be helping!
Getting it stripped for sandblasting...dads camaro in the background...

PLANS:
came with a 4 link, going to sell it
came with a steel cowl hood, keeping
came with a detriot tru track 12 bolt, posi, 3:73s, so thats done.
came with a 3/5 lowering kit (flip kit and spindles) will probably go lower
-sandblast and paint everything
-probably switch to bucket seats
-all new bushings, shocks, hardware etc. make it drive like new
-run steelies with fat tars for a while then go to 20s, maybe coys
-Im sure a lot more will come along
-and the BIGGEST decision, is either just run the 350 I have for it, or swap in a 5.3 or 6.0 been reading a lot of builds, just got to see if its doable for me. Id love to for the fuel economy and power, since I plan to drive the **** out of this thing when there's no snow!
Just want a nice, low static truck I can drive all the time, have fun in, and haul a dirtbike in!
Here's the basic idea...

Sounds like you have a good plan. Good luck with the build.

Re: Project mouthful-80 c10-6.0?

if your on a budget just compare the costs of building the 350...vs picking up and installing a 5.3. A 6.0 might be a little tough if your tight on funds... but 5.3's are cheap...4.8's even cheaper.

Re: Project mouthful-80 c10-6.0?

with the 4.8/5.3/6.0 you gotta do the fuel system, although a 87 tank (or even 87-91 blazer tank) has efi pump, use a tpi fuel pump (45psi) on the truck sending unit and a corvette regulator (fuel in, fuel return and fuel line all in one) and youd be in business, single line to the front (i think 04 and later truck motors had this not for sure).

Re: Project mouthful-80 c10-6.0?

you could always do the cheapest SBC you can do for now to get you going....and then while you're driving it, save to upgrade to LSx later.

Re: Project mouthful-80 c10-6.0?

That was another thought of mine since the 350 will be free, just need to buy a tranny. However, the truck is 100 percent taken apart so I wonder if it'll just be easier to do it all at once while its just a rolling chassis?

Re: Project mouthful-80 c10-6.0?

Okay, I found a complete 6.0 with harness/PCM with 92k on it for $1,000. Its an 01 so no DBW which i like, less to deal with. Think thats a good deal? Need to find a good deal on 4l80e if I grab this one. What else should I need/look for? thanks

Re: Project mouthful-80 c10-6.0?

Okay, hold on here folks...what needs to be done to the linkage for a 6.0 and 80e? how expensive is it? I think im picking up a 6.0 sunday and just found another extra cost. can someone fill me in? This is what i jsut read in another thread...
"if I did it again I would get the kuegels, a little less $
From other posts I have read here and on other forums, stock linkage will work with the 4l60e, it can be made to work with a 4l80e, but I don't have a welder and the lokar seems to be what I needed with the 4l80e.
Yes, I have shifter on column."

I'm using the Lokar one on mine. Well worth the coin.

Re: Project mouthful-80 c10-6.0?

I don't think you can buy those seperately. You could get some used new/used lowers or fab some bump stops.
