Tow Mirrors '68 C20

I cannot find a new set of tow mirrors that match my old rusty ones on my '68 Chevy C20!? They can be stainless or chrome, use the 3 point mounting, and have the rectangular mirror.
~8" from hole to hole on bottom, and up to the center top hole from either of the bottom holes, ~10".
Could use the help, thanks!

Re: Tow Mirrors '68 C20

Hmm, these appear to have no #s, only rust...

Here is a website that has very similar mirrors. They are the Tripod version at the bottom left of page.
The dimensions of the holes is not given.

Thanks again.

Re: Tow Mirrors '68 C20

Possibly like these, but I don't have the truck here to measure. These are original on a 69, but have a 4"-6" horizontal extension added to the mirror head elbow. Option code was DG4 These are not for sale. The LMC style mirrors are not very impressive. Better to look for some originals. The 71-72 tripod mirrors have a much smaller tripod with the same size mirror head.

Re: Tow Mirrors '68 C20

that's the for sale forum, here's a link http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/f...ysprune=30&f=8

And here's a pic of 72 camper mirrors: (and by the way, I wanted to cry - I missed buying this custom camper by 12 hrs yesterday... it sold for $4500, or somewhere south of that figure - not a speck of rust anywhere). Snooze, ya looze.

Re: Tow Mirrors '68 C20

Ouch. No rust is always a huge plus for me as I am no body builder!

My mirror brackets r 3 point triangle mounts. These are a bit bigger.

I think I'll try googlin' again tomorrow w/ "tripod" and "below eye" again...

if anyone knows of an wharehouse/on line mart/whatever, it would b appreciated.

til tomorrow!

Ha! Yeah - I'm with ya, they are BIG..., I didn't say I actually LIKED these mirrors... They are butt ugly, but very functional. I'd probably have filled the holes and mounted sport mirrors and not worried about what was behind me beacuse I wouldn't have been able to see it anyway, painted over the faded paint (it was a horrible repaint over decent original patina). Didn't look like they even sanded before paint - but oh my was it ever straight and rust free... Ugh. Anyhoo! For some reason, really liked that truck. Here's a few more pics... (that camper would have saved me on some tag fees!!)

Re: Tow Mirrors '68 C20

If you have tripods, they were added somewhere along the line. So your best bet is to match up pictures and measurements. There were a lot of aftermarket mirrors of the tripod type bought by people to update their trucks, some good and others were junk. Here is a pastup of the factory stock and RPO optional mirrors. Hope it helps and good hunting.

Good point and info.

The Below Eye Line mirrirs came out as a 69 factory option I believe. Even though they were called West Coast mirrors.

Good catch

Definitely after market after perusing more web sites and reading all the above posts.
I'll keep poking around as I like these 7 x 10" mirror, "tripod" mounted ones.

Thanks all again!

Perhaps your doors were replaced with later doors or the original holes welded and these mirrors added.

My extra set is the tripod kind, but the bottom holes are about 11 1/2 inches apart.

To reinforce this...

After I posted yesterday, I visited the archived info. at www.gmheritagecenter.com and found that the option description in the literature for the 69 mirrors was below eye line even though they were called West Coast Junior on our SPIDs. The 68 info. on the website had a different option number and the description was West Coast Junior (probably the same on the SPID). I bet the SPID description for at least 69 & 70 was just carried over from 68.

Another interesting fact...
In 1970 the 396BB went to a 402 but on many SPID's the 402 in 1970 would be listed as a 396.

In 1970 the top option package was the CST (Custom Sport Truck) and in 1971 it was the Super Cheyenne (I think) ...but many times on the 1971 Trucks instead of the correct listing of Super Cheyenne it would be listed as a CST.

Go figure ...

Re: Tow Mirrors '68 C20

Ok, now I'm REALLY confused...
I always thought:

Sport/Standard mirrors were the smallest available - normally see them on non-tow rigs, etc. Look like pic #1 (it's a 72, and I realize the base model mirrors were different in 67-68, looked more like 66 and prior mirrors with round head).

Also, always thought WEST COAST and WEST COAST JR mirrors were the hoop style that Tim displayed pics of above - Pic #2 here, just to complete the set.

And finally, I always thought below eyeline mirrors were the monsters for campers (pic #3) and granted, they had different style tripods and leg lengths for diff years.

Are we saying that #3 is not a factory mirror? And that below eyeline (on a SPID) is actually another term for West Coast or West Coast jr??

The Below Eye Mirror is factory correct.

For some reason the SPID would list the factory Below Eye Line mirror as a West Coast Mirror when in fact it should have listed the mirror as Below Eye Line Mirror.

Try campingworld or any camper place. I think that maybe the one's you are looking for. Also try,I don't think you want to hear this, maybe a f,,, f-250 or f-350 early to 1997 model. They had some nice mirrors that didn't rattel to bad.
I think the ones you are wanting will rattle more when you put them on aftermarket than factory.

. . . .

The mirrors I bought for my 70's restoration from J C Whitney are the closest I could find that looked like the 1970 "camper mirrors".

They ARE butt-ugly, but at least I'll be able to see around a boat that's eight feet wide.
