help burnt wires on 270 gmc
Okay so here is the deal I have been spending a lot of time fixing and replacing wires in engine bay and under the dash. I have what would be basic stock setup 59 gmc with 270 my big question is with the generator and voltage regulator. On mine the black wire with white line runs from screw in the generator to a screw holding on the voltage regulator. When I tried to crank the engine yesterday it burned straight through. Dose anyone have pictures of their's both regulator and generator. I posted both of mine the way they were except for the faact that i replaced the blue wire with a yellow one same gauge it was handy. Thanks in advance yall

Re: help burnt wires on 270 gmc
The stock wiring diagram does not show that wire. Looks like someone tried to ground the generator to the VR housing. I'd remove it. Stock diagram shows a 20ga dark blue from the gen F to VR F terminal and 14 G brown from Gen A to VR A terminal. Other terminal on the VR goes to horn relay and ammeter.

Re: help burnt wires on 270 gmc
Make sure the starter (engine block) has a ground to the chassis and the battery ground goes from cab to chassis. It looks to me like the ground while starting is trying to go through that VR ground wire and its not large enough gage so it burned.
I don't know what the two things near the arrows are but they may be the problem. |
