Can someone help me on this?
So I have the motor out and am working on getting the firewall ready for paint and this shows up. I don't know if it was a factory thing or if someone cut this in for some reason. I am trying to go back stock but don't know why this would be there. The sides and bottom have a lip on it but it is so uneven at the top it makes me wonder.

Re: Can someone help me on this?
where on the firewall is this? looks like a prybar went through at some point. my truck doesn't have anything like that I can remember and neither does the extra parts cab I have, to my knowledge. I would weld it closed personally. no need for more water issues.

this is the center where the bump goes into the cab. It is down low, It is like 3 inches each direction.

Re: Can someone help me on this?
I looked at pics my buddies 54 gmc during the totally apart stages and there are no indications of anything like that on his engine bump. it would be directly behind the cylinder head area, above the bend that goes down to the pinch weld right? sorry, from my last post, my trucks are 55-59 era, my bad.

Re: Can someone help me on this?
someone probably cut in for access to a fastener, I see a lot of late model suvs with a fuel pump "flap" instead of dropping the tank.

Re: Can someone help me on this?
That was my thinking, Someone's way of easy access to a bolt without buying that "special wrench" off the tool truck. Weld it up,slick it out and call it good.

Re: Can someone help me on this?
yeah, it's a access flap somebody cut for some reason. Several decades have gone by, no telling what somebody did back in the 70s or 80s.

Re: Can someone help me on this?
Well I think it was just an access point. I fixed it today. Paint tomorrow.
