1970 front suspension swap
Guys,
My name Alan and I Just purchased a 1970 C10.I have a couple of other cars but I really enjoy driving this pickup. I have a question for you all. If I go to my local parts store and order front suspension parts what latest year truck should I ask for? Just looking for parts that will just bolt on with minimal modifications. Thank you all in advance for your assistance. |

Re: 1970 front suspension swap
to the board! nice looking truck. We like lots and lots of pictures here so please help contribute to our addiction and post some more!
to answer your question, what are you looking to do with the front suspension? just replace stock parts? or are you wanting to upgrade certain things? the latest direct bolt on stock parts would be '72. most '70-'72 parts can be interchanged. if it has drum front brakes and want to swap for disc, you can pull the front setup from a '73 and up (not sure the last year) and it will bolt on with none- minimal modifications |

Re: 1970 front suspension swap
Thank you for the advice. I really want to swap the drum drakes to disc brakes, in addition would like a to upgrade the upper and lower control arms with new ball joints and lower the front 2.5 inches.

Re: 1970 front suspension swap
Do a search on here and put in the line something like square body disc swap. Be prepared to spend a few hours reading through the material. Oh ,and welcome to the site. Jim

Re: 1970 front suspension swap
Buy 63-70 disc brake conversion spindles.
Stock or drop $229. They are a direct bolt on! Do not use 71-72 or 73-87 parts unless you want to change a lot more parts. (Balljoints, tie rods, steering components) Look in the suspension section for more info. Your question gets asked almost daily.

Re: 1970 front suspension swap
There are several ways to accomplish what you're wanting to do but Id agree with Keith. 63-70 spindles and new ball joints (you'll need a disc grinder or air chisel) while you have it apart. You can do it in your garage in a couple of weekends including clean / paint if you chose to.
71-72 parts or 73-87 are options too but I'd go that route only if you had the truck stripped down, front end off, engine out etc. I have the entire Kmember from an 85 in mine now. It's not difficult if the engine is out. Welcome to the board

Re: 1970 front suspension swap
Before you go getting donor parts measure the rear end and see if you have a narrow or wide rearend . If you have a narrow r/end then the front will be an 1 1/2" wider than rear ,if you go with a 71+ front end. Allso are you looking for a 6 lug pattern or 5 lug ?

Re: 1970 front suspension swap
You can get 6 lug disc rotors to keep with your 6 lug rear end.
Or you can do what I am doing. I'm swapping the spindles and steering components from a 1972 C15 onto a 1969 C10 frame so I can use the 5 lug rotors from the 1972. The 1969 rear end is narrower than the 1972 rear end so I got conversion axles from Moser that are the stock 1969 length with 5 lugs instead of 6. Gary
