Another Vortec head question
I asked a while ago for opinions on Vortec vs blueprint heads and most people suggested Vortecs For a stock/mild 350. My next question is should I stick with gm Vortec heads or go with summit Vortec heads. The only real difference I see on the specs is 64cc chambers for gm vs 67cc on the summit heads. Any thoughts, opinions or experiences? Thanks

Re: Another Vortec head question
The chamber is one of the big pluses for oem vortecs and why they can run 9.4:1 compression on 87 octane with iron heads and a puny little cam. I'd stay oem.

Re: Another Vortec head question
Most aftermarket vortecs have a heavier casting and less likely to crack but oem heads will run until the motor is worn out without any problems. You may or may not be able to reuse the oem heads.

Re: Another Vortec head question
To echo what Gary says, I've pulled apart a lot of Vortec engines with cracked heads, but I've never pulled a Vortec engine because of a cracked head. In other words, the cracks don't cause serious problems when they're running, but I would never reuse a cracked head unless it can be repaired first.
