Your thinking is right there, and I will need to know the Diamaters of the hub on the axle, and the hole on the wheel so I can make em right. What I am going to do is machine a 1.5" thick spacer with two 6 hole patterns on it, then I am going to counter bore every other hole on each side so as that you can bolt the spacer individually to the axle, torque it properly, and then with a new set of wheel studs you can mount the wheel directly to the spacer instead of trying to find ridiculously long wheel studs.
Also this will make it easier to mount and unmount everything.
