Talking I need a 2.5 for my daughters 88 S-15

What other engines can I swap right in in leiu of a 2.5? I dont need to hear small block, bigblock, jet engine, etc, its a doggy little fuel effcient 4 cyl and I want it to stay thay way, my little girl is going to drive this for petes sake! Does anyone out west know where to locate a good 2.5L or a sutible substitute? Just looking for some ideas, I havent dabbled in the mini truck arenas much and was looking for some ideas! Thanks folks -UltraBlue
