steering u-joint question

Ok,I finally got back to my 69 step after 4 months.I have a tilt column from a chev van-keyless type, upon installing it was too short by about 15 inches,I found a intermediate shaft from a newer chev truck which I can cut down to length.
My situation is this---the intermediate shaft has a DD type shaft-the end of the steering column is a splined shaft 36? spline? I called a well known steering specialist company and of course we need the measurements for the shaft , I come up with a 11/16 on each end, splined and DD ends. is this really a 3/4 that will clamp down?
I see speedwaymotors offers a 3/4 DD to a 36 spline 3/4 weld on type u joint, anyone ever do this or any positive input on this? I assume it also has a method of clamping. (I am a certified pipe welder with a tig setup)
Any help appreciated--- Chip
